![]() | DIABETIC!!!!!!! Help
Hi was wondering if breast augmentation is more likley to be successful in Diabetic or unsucessful. I have well controlled sugars and maintain my Diabetes as best as I can. I have had it for 12 years and I am concerned that when I get my breast augmentation in Dec I might have complications from the diabetes and not the breast augmentation. Do you have experience with Diabetic patients. If so what are some complications that are most often seen in those patients of yours?

I have not had any complications in patients with diabetes. If you insulin dependent, then your chance for infection or wound healing problems goes up. Usually a short uncomplicated surgery like breast implants does not cause problems with respect to diabetes. You will need to be fasting overnight so your insulin requirement changes and you need to watch your sugar closely and through the following 24 hours. Usually they are regular again after that. Although the risks a higher, I tell patients it is certainly possible to have the surgery.
