Whitish patches on nipples?

Hi Dr. Hueneke,

I really like the answers you provide, so I am addressing this question to you. I might e-mail my PS and ask him, but I thought I'd ask here first. Let me preface my question with...I breastfed my daughter (9 years ago) after which point my nipples changed. (i.e. you can tell I've nursed because the nipples just appear more bumpy and glandular looking if that makes any sense). Since my second and possibly first breast augmentation, I've noticed that some very small patches of white develop on my nipples and they may even look a tad yellow and when I brush on them, it comes off. Do you have any idea what this is? Is it small bits of milk or colostrum? Or is it possible that my nipple tissue is just adjusting to surgery? Well, thank you very much in advance and I appreciate your input on this forum.

Dr.Hueneke is on a distinguished road
Well it's a tough one without seeing you. There are Montgomery glands on the areola and nipples that fit the description. Sometimes secretions can collect and can be scraped away. The skin on the nipple just like every else on our body does shed normall and if it is dry can be more noticable. There are a host of other skin or nipple conditions. Visual exam is important but sometimes requires more to figure it out. Best to get it checked out.

You're right...it is a "tough one" without seeing me. They're about the size of the tip of a small pin and they come and go. But, thanks for giving it a try and the recommendation. I will definitely ask my doctor! Input much appreciated...
