![]() | Traditional Lipo vs Smart Lipo
Dr. Heuneke, Can you please tell me if traditional lipo or smart lipo is better? Is smart lipo just a quick fix or new fad? I have been trying to research it. It almost seems too good to be true....less pain, less down time etc. Thanks,

I am unaware of any conclusive evidence that proves SmartLipo improves results or decreases recovery time. There are other methods such as Vaser and external laser liposuction that make these claims. The bottom line is that the surgeon you can give you a reasonable expectation of the outcomes based on his or her experience with the technique they typically use. I personally use traditional liposuction and find the results to be satisfactory. I am always open and investigating ways to make this procedure better for my patients. So far, I am unconvinced a superior method has been developed. New technologies are available all the time and it is important that they are shown in studies to be effective before jumping on the bandwagon.
