Just had a 3-month check-up: Bottoming out
Yesterday I went for a three month post-op check up and my PS noted that I had no muscle tissue under my left implant--that it was bottoming out. I had under-the-muscle placement. The nipple is centered but this left breast does sit a bit lower than the right. She suggested that I wear a bra 24/7 to keep the implant from migrating downward. I'm thinking of getting this corrected surgically, but she didn't even raise that as an option--her view was "wait and see." I'm upset that this has happened--won't it just get worse? Should I think about getting a correction or should I just wait and see? Thanks for any thoughts.....

i am 4 months post op and noticed i was bottoming out at about 6 weeks.my ps said wait and see.. but at my 3 almost 4 month checkup he did confirm bottoming out and he has to do a revision on both my breasts.i am responsible for the hospital and anesthsia. no cost from the doc.my ps says wearing a bra doesnt make a difference once you start bottoming out. i know this sucks because you expect to be perfect after surgery.keep me posted!

You probably will need this fixed surgically but three months post op is too soon which is probably why your PS did not bring this up. Wearing a bra in the meantime will help support the bottomed out breast. It has been my experience that they settle to a certain point and stop. There are a lot of bottomed out breast implants walking around so don't think it will just keep getting lower.
I would like to say this has never happened to me but it has and it will again. At this point you are doing the right thing, if your PS never brings up surgery tells you that you look ok then you need another PS. It seems she did not communicate your possible need for surgery in the future perhaps not to make you anxious but not having been there I am only guessing. To make yourself more comfortable with all of this, make another appointment and talk it over with your PS. I suspect she will be forthcoming with the possible need for surgery. Dr. Kearney |
