Hello,

Is it necessary to discontinue taking birth control pills prior to surgery?

There is an increased risk of blood clots in your legs when on BCP so it is a good idea to stop. I think for short surgeries if you surgeon takes other precautions such as compression stockings and sequential compression devices the risk is less. Another risk factor for blood clots is obesity.
