Hi ![]() Ive had my breast augmentation for almost 7 months and have since developed CC. Im going in to have it repaired in November. My PS never discussed exactly what type of surgery it would be. But I was told I could use the same implant. I would like educate myself more about the procedure before I go back in to discuss it further with him. My questions to you are: 1. What are the pros/cons of having a CAPSULOTOMY vs CAPSULECTOMY? 2. Which do you recomend? 3. Do you recomend using a new implant. And if so, would you recomend using a larger implant if you do remove the complete capsule with the capsulectomy? Thank you very much for your time and help! |

My questions to you are: 1. What are the pros/cons of having a CAPSULOTOMY vs CAPSULECTOMY? When you develop a CC it is most likely a low grade infection. For this reason you need to remove the scar capsule - capsulectomy - otherwise the risk of recurrence is very high. The only time you do a capsulotomy is if the implant is soft and just never dropped into the pocket. If the implant is hard then you need a capsulectomy. 2. Which do you recomend? See question 1. 3. Do you recomend using a new implant. And if so, would you recomend using a larger implant if you do remove the complete capsule with the capsulectomy? You can use the same implant as long as there is no scar tissue trapped in the valve on the implant. If you have silicone then there is no valve and you should be fine. I always scrub the implant with an antibacterial solution before putting it back in. I was in Tampa Bay for 20 years. Who is your surgeon? Hope this helped. Dr. Kearney |

![]() | Thank you your response. It was very informative! ![]() Now I just need to discuss what exactly his plan are with my case. Im hoping he plans to do a caspulectomy. If not Ill pretty worried now that youve explained the difference between the two. I used Dr Kenneth Brown. He's older but a great ps and his staff is wonderful. |

i just had a capsulectomy 3 months ago unfortunately. they bascially just took out all the scar tissue and used the same implant and put them back in, but the only difference in my surgery was i switched my implants from overs to unders to decrease the risk of getting another one...so now im just hoping and parying no more complications cause its frickin expensive!!!!!!!!1
