Mod or Mod Plus saline?

Dear Dr. Kearney,

I have booked my breast augmentation for January and the surgeon suggested 330 f/t 360 (saline) Mod for me. My BWD is 12.5 and ribcage 32 in. Wearing a 34 A currently.

He suggested mod projection, but I am wondering if "mod plus' would be better for me given the 330-360 cc we are talking about. I noticed on the Mentor website that the diameter of the moderate implants at that range, are larger than my BWD.

I had read that using an implant w/diameter larger than your BWD could increase the change of rippling. Is that true ? I want to avoid visible rippling.

I would like a natural look, however do not mind the additional projection that would come w/a Mod Plus, as i'm not going really large in cc. My goal is to be a full C cup if possible.

Could you please tell me whether you would you suggest Mod or Mod Plus for me ? Would your opinion change on this if the Allergan implants were used instead of Mentor ?

Thank you in advance for your expertise !

I rarely use moderate implants. When I use Mentor I use moderate plus which is the equivalent to the Allergan moderate. IF you compare the profiles of those two implants you will see they are very similar.

If you go wider you can experience more rippling. With an A cup you are at risk of that no matter what implant you put in as you are short on soft tissue coverage. This is typically only visible when you bend over "unsupported"in front of a mirror. You will not see rippling with a bra or bathing suit on. I guess living in Boston you won't have to worry about the bathing suit for a while.

Thank you Dr. Kearney, I appreciate your insight into mentor mod plus vs. Allergan Mod. It is very helpful

With an A cup what do you think my chances are (%) of visible rippling standing upright breasts unsupported/naked ?

Would I be better off w/silicone ? I don't want to have a bad result in terms of seeing visible rippling standing naked. If i see it bending over, that really isn't a concern for me though....

thank you again. Your expertise has been invaluable.

Silicone always feels better than saline, they can still ripple but it will be less visible than with saline. It is only a rare patient who has visible rippling when standing up right, at that point it is more the feel underneath and laterally where you can discern the difference between the saline and silicone.
