bruising on lower breast

i have a bluish/yellowish bruising on my right lower breast. Is this normal, and if it is, when will it go away?

Bruising after Breast Augmentation

Dear JenniferVi:

Thank you for your question. In my experience bruising is rare after Breast Augmentation unless a another procedure has been performed with it such as liposuction or a breast lift. You are several weeks out, so bruising should be in the clearing stages and will appear light purple to yellow.

What you are describing can be perfectly normal, but I would check with your plastic surgeon just to be certain. I would be more concerned if you also had increased pain and swelling on the same side. These could be the signs of more significant bleeding or a hematoma.

Thank you Dr Mele for such a quick response.

I googled some pictures of what a hematoma looks like and it is definitely not that severe. The bruising is very light, I have a picture of it in my album, sending you an FR. There isn't any pain. Perhaps its the implant dropping into the pocket that has caused the bruising?? I am going to call my PS today just to make sure, but wanted a second opinion also.

Thank you for your help!

Dear JenniferVi:

The interesting part about practicing medicine is everyone and every time is different. If the bruising is light and there is little pain, then it is probably normal, but it won't hurt to touch bases with your plastic surgeon. You know how doctors are ... they always come up with the worst thing they can think of. Hematomas are not know for subtlety so it's not likely without other symptoms, and would be rare at 18 days. You may have had a little bleeding with surgery and t is now making its way to the surface to be seen.

If it is nothing major you can be reassured and not worry. If it is something it can be fixed sooner than later. Let's hope for the nothing major option. As far as this being a second opinion ... it worth what you paid for it. :P Plastic Surgery is a hands on, eyes on specialty, and I can't really offer much without seeing you. Thanks for the follow-up.
