![]() | Firm Breasts=Capsular Contracture?
I went in for my 6.5 week post op appointment today.. My PS felt my boobs and said that they're still very firm. I thought it was normal for them to be firm for awhile but would eventually soften up in time.. Right?? And isn't it a little early on to detect CC? Well he's pretty much saying that I have Grade II Capsular Contracture (breasts feel firm but look normal) in both boobs because of how firm the implants feel. I'm not sure how to feel about that.. i do compression exercises throughout the day, everyday.. And I've been taking Vitamin E. I'm so worried. He's saying that once CC kicks in, that's pretty much it.. You've gotta really fight it but it keeps forming and closing in around the implant. He also recommends taking a tennis ball against the wall and just put all my body weight on it to smash the implant down to "squish the implant and open up the pocket". If it's not better, he's already anticipating doing surgery after 6 months to replace the implant. OMG!! My husband is really doing some hard core compression exercises on my boobies.. they hurt like heck, but we so don't want to have to go through surgery and recovery again! Should I be worried? Is there anything else I can do to fight this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

![]() | Early capsular contracture
Dear IGT: Capsular contracture can sometimes occur early after surgery. Aggressive massage can help. Vitamin E may or may not help, but it's not likely to cause any trouble. Some women do take longer to get to the initial softening so give it some time and keep up the massaging. I have had several patients take a year to soften, and they were very compliant with massage. So keep it up.

Thank you SO much for your response Dr. Mele. I will definitely be a massaging machine!! I hope it helps.. I also requested to be prescribed Accolate. Do you think that will help as well? I appreciate your time!

![]() | Accolate
I am a little wary of Accolate because it has some rare but nasty side effects and we really need a large well controlled study to see if it is a safe and affective treatment. Most evidence is anecdotal.

Hi Dr Mele. I've been doing aggressive massages and floor compressions since my Monday appointment when I was told I may have CC. Today, I'm in a lot of discomfort to the point where its too uncomfortable for me to continue with the recommended compressions. Could the discomfort be because I broke through the capsule? Or am I just bruising myself? I also noticed a small nodule on the outer portion of my right breast, it's not very hard and the implant doesn't feel hard in that area, but could that be the scar tissue? Do I continue to do the compressions and just deal with the pain or stop? Thank you!

![]() | Pain with Breast Massage
If you are having a lot of pain with the massage, you will want to follow up with your plastic surgeon. Also any lumps or bumps should be checked at the same time. It is too complicated to try to evaluate you through this forum. Your surgeon knows where you were before and can compare that to how you are now.
