In the last two days my breast have been feeling VERY cold to the point that I hold my hair dryer on front of them to warm them up. I have read that this is common with Saline breast implants but never about Silicone. The top of my breast are warm but from nipple to crease it is freezing! Will this go away? I don't have much feeling from nipple to crease but when I touch them they are COLD! To the point that my nipples are always erect and irritated from rubbing onto my clothes- hurts! P.s. I live in Texas! So it's not that cold here- maybe the last week yes.. Thank you, |

Hi! I have had mine for almost 8 years (silicone oil over the muscle) and mine are freakishly cold too...all the time...all over. Is this normal, and will cohesive silicone do this as well? (I am having a re-do in November)....

![]() ME TOO! My hubby always complains about my 'wet' feet (they're always so cold they feel wet!)... so maybe it's just us! Oh well, at least there's three of us - we can just tell ourselves that we're an exclusive club, and forget that it's not a good one [us booby girls aren't supposed to be intelligent, right? *hahahaha*] | |

![]() | Hahaha.
I hadn't given this too much thought, but after seeing this thread I reached into my bra and felt the underside of my boobs. LO and BEHOLD, they ARE cold!! LOL, I wouldn't have noticed it until you guys said something. The top half is warm. Hmmm. strange! However I have always wondered why my bum is always cold. I figured that there is not a lot of circulation going on there, so it must be the same for the boobs. We dont need them to be kept warm, they are normally fatty areas that keep our internal organs insulated just by being there. So, I haven't experienced anything like you guys are describing (painfully cold) but mine are on the cool side if I touch them. one of the quirks of boobs. Who would have guessed! |

Wow! I never thought that would be something anyone dealt with. Hmmmm I had asked that question to a friend of mine before I had my breast augmentation and she has saline but she said hers are never cold unless she is getting out of the shower. I just checked mine and I have silicone overs and mine are warm all the time. I am sorry you all have this going on. Is it something to do with the nerves to that area?

I have the memory mentor gels and they haven't done this at all. It is starting to get into the cold weather season so I will find out if that will make a difference.

My boobs are the first thing to go cold on me. They never used to be, it must be the implant or something its really weird, its always the bottom of my boob for me.

I was just thinking about this - as it gets colder outside my breasts feel 'stiff', for lack of a better word. Maybe they are just cold. Weird.

I have not had this problem, but I can imagine how annoying that is. I am a naturally cold person so that would def drive me crazy...hopefully you gals can figure it out or maybe it will drift away with time...who knows??

Dear Realbabe: Thanks for your popular post. There are many things going on right now so let me try and explain. The body is really only interested in keeping it's core at a uniform temperature. The surface skin is used to regular our core temperature. One of the primary functions of the skin is to regulate temperature. When we are hot, the blood vessels in the skin dilate to radiate heat away from the core (to make us cold). When we are cold, the vessel constrict to prevent heat loss (to keep us warm). Areas the stick out (hands, feet, head and breasts) tend to show these changes the most. 40% of heat loss is through our scalp. This is the origin of the expression "if you are cold put on a hat". It has to do with the ratio of warm blood flowing in, the amount of (surface) area available to lose heat through, and the difference in temperature. Second - areas that have more fat under them tend to cool off more. If you are a little cold, check anyplace that has a little more fat (lower back, buttocks, lower abdomen, and breast) they will be cooler. The deeper muscle tissues, with increased blood flow, stay warmer. The fat has much less blood flow and gets cold. Third - If you are only a few weeks after surgery, your breast have been injured and the ability to regulate the blood vessels (and temperature) of the breasts is not back to normal. Still with me? Ok, the top of the beasts are muscle, there is very little fat, so they tend to stay warm. The bottom of the breast is breast tissue, i.e. mostly fat, and tend to cool more quickly. If you have larger implants, especially in front of the muscle, the blood vessels get compressed and stretched, decreasing blood flow and the skin temperature. The cooler it is outside, the more noticeable this will be. This happens with and without breast implants. The bigger breasts lose more heat. Right after surgery, the blood vessels are dilated and you are more likely to have heat loss from the breasts. You body wants increased blood flow to heal and will be more sensitive to the heat loss. With time this usually gets better and less noticeable. Most women have lower temperatures on the bottom of their breasts and don't notice. Cold breast can also occur with capsular contracture. It is too soon for you to have this and what you are describing does not put you at higher risk for getting capsular contracture, but in severe capsular contracture, more commonly with implant in front of the muscle, the breast can also feel cold regardless of implant type. With time the blood vessels in your breasts should get used to the new situation and this should become less of a problem. Every body is different, be certain to mention what is going on to your plastic surgeon. This way, if there is something else going on it can be properly identified and treated. You may need to wear a thicker top (and maybe a hat) in the interim. Hope you are still awake after reading this, and that it helps you get through the healing process.

OOOOOOH Okay! I knew from my Anatomy class that toes, fingers and head cooled off first so the heat (blood) could could go to the vital organs first but didn't know it included the breast- something along that line anyways. I will wait for my blood vessels to heal I guess. In the mean while I have learned to use to blow dryer on front of my breast for 3 mins and then go out. I am hoping since they take awhile to equal outside temperature I should use this in the postive way.. now I can have an inside 'booby heater.' Thank you girls for your participation and of course most importantly thank you Dr. Mele!!!! Puts me more at ease |
