shingles question

Hi Dr.

So I was on vacation. While on vacation in the wind & rain I got sick. I ended up getting a rash, what at first I thought was from other laundry soap. As soon as I got home I went to my dr. I found out that I have shingles. My shingles is on the nerve on my back & I can feel the itchy going toward my breast. I am 4 months out of my 2nd breast augmentation. My current incision is under the breast fold.

Should I be worried about anything with my breast augmentation?

Thank You.

Dr. Mele will become famous soon enough
Dear Daisydog:

Shingles can be very uncomfortable, so the sooner it is treated the better. There are excellent antiviral medications that can limit the extent and speed the resolution of the shingles. I would keep the follow up with your doctor.

The disease primarily affects the skin, so as long as it is treated appropriately, it should not affect you breast augmentation. If there is any question though, contact your plastic surgeon and get checked.
