Inverted Nipple Correction

I have had 3 consultations and have decided, pretty much, on a surgeon. However, I have inverted nipples and 2 said that they will probably pop out with the breast augmentation. One says, they may pop out, but looking at them, he doubts it and is willing to do it at the same time. And one of the surgeons says it's not safe to do it at the same time. What is your view on this?

Hi there, i am not a dr, but i did have an inverted nipple before my breast augmentation. ( 10 days ago)

it has "popped out" and i dont think it is going back... the nipple is obviously very sensitive, more so than my other one which wasnt inverted.

also i have found that the boob with the inverted nipple is taking a little bit longer to settle down, i dont think it is all cause of the nipple, but obviously a bit more adjusting for that boob to accomodate the implant.

also it depends on how inverted the nipples are, i was also told that if the breast augmentation didnt make my nipple come out forever, that ( a less attractive option) you can pierce your nipple and leave it in for around 6 months and that should do the trick...

anyway, hope that helps a bit. cause i was worried about it too!

Dear Twingirlz:

Many times mild inversion will correct with augmentation. Severe inversion, normally requires additional surgery. Here is a severely inverted nipple for comparison: www.sanfranciscoplasticsurgeryblog.com/category/inverted-nipples/

There are a few choices here. You can have augmentation and see what happens. If it corrects great, if it doesn't, correction of the inverted nipples can be done at that time. It is relatively minor and has a shorter recovery time.

You can leave it up to your plastic surgeon to determine in the operating room. There is a chance that it will look fine in the operating room, nothing will be done to the nipples and then a few days to weeks later it will invert. Recurrence of inversion is the most common problem seen after inverted nipple correction.

Lastly you can have both done at the same time no matter what. This is most likely way to correct both, but it many mean having unnecessary surgery.

As a plastic surgeon, I do not mind taking on the responsibility of choice two above, but I cannot tell you what is best in your specific case. It depends on the extent of inversion and how difficult the inversion is to reverse.

Mine have not popped out after my breast augmentation. Though they are not anywhere near as inverted as the link Doc posted. And piercing them didn't work either.

Yeah, mine are at least as inverted as the picture on the link. I'm thinking I will probably do it at the same time. My surgeon is not going to charge that much extra and I really don't have time for 2 different healing periods. Thanks for the input.

Glad I added the picture then. If you are that inverted then you likely to need more than just the augmentation.
