Mondor's Cord

Hi Dr. P,

I'm about 25 days post-op with you and going to see you in about a week but I just did some research on some weird pulls I was getting around my incision and found out it was Mondor's Cord. I know not to freak out and it's something that happens, but I was wondering what steps I can start taking to help it go away. I'm currently massage my scars with Vit E. I haven't start massaging my actually incision to break up scar tissue yet because I still feel some stitches in there and don't think I'm fully sealed up. I do feel some discomfort when I stretch in a certain way on my left boob that is bothersome. I heard taking some ibuprofen along with hot wet compressions of some sort. Let me know what you recommend along with anything that I shouldn't be doing to make it worse! Thank you!!

Dr. Pelletiere will become famous soon enough

If it is a mondor's cord, than motrin and heat will help in along. Feel free to stretch it out - you are not going to hurt anything. If it is not a mondors cord, it is probably just some tissue that got tight in the healing process from inactivity and needs to re-stretch out. Either way, it will go away on its own in a week or two. In terms of massaging the scar, you definetely should be able to massage the incision and not hurt anything- those sutures you are feeling will be there for about 3-4 months. It is alright if you are feeling the lumpiness from them under the scar. You will not hurt anything. That is why I tell people at the one week mark that they can start massaging the scar if they want to. At one week, the skin is healed over and you cannot hurt anything. Sounds like you are in the normal healing process, and I will see you in the next week or two.

needsinfo,
i just wrote Dr.P about this a few days ago.
And i have started to massage my incisions with my arms above my head, to help them stretch out. I only have Mendor's Cord on my left breast incision...well, if it is that. Either way. I have been working on it for a few days and it has helped the slight discomfort, though its still there. I know in time it will go away.

Good luck!
