incisions

Dr. P,
I have a concern about my left incision... it is hard to explain, but i will do my best. So, i have noticed that when i stretch or arch my back (even, just a little) i have this pulling feeling right bellow my incision site. It looks like it is taut. It appears to look like photos i have seen of people that get rippling. Yet, i know that its not that, because its bellow my incision where no implant is.
I am unsure how well i am describing this, and if you do not understand it at all i can post a photo for you to observe.

But i am just curious if this is normal? will it stretch out, or work itself out?
Is there a chance that skin can be pulled by the stitch work?

Thanks!

Dr. Pelletiere will become famous soon enough
What you are experiencing is normal. It is either just a little tight band that will stretch out, or a mondor's cord ( a superficial skin vein that clots off sometimes in surgery). Nothing some regular stretching will not take care of. If it becomes painful at all ( sometimes a mondor's cord does), just use aheating pad on it and take ibuprofen. Chances are it is just a tightness that will stretch out here in the next week or so.

thank you! I looked it up and its totally a mondor's cord. well, appears to be that! ha. it was a sign of relief.

it does cause some discomfort, but now i know how to 'treat' it.
how long does it usually take for that to work itself out? It there anything i can do to help it stretch out? or just let it do its thing?

*thanks

It can take a few weeks for a mondor's cord to go away. Just stretch it out a couple of times a day by raising your arm above your head and massaging it. Again, heat and ibuprofen seem to do the trick as well.
