I noticed capsular contracture right around 3 months post op in my leftie. Dr put me on papaverine, vit e, and to get more aggressive with the massaging. I am now 4 months po and went for my appt today. I hadn't progressed any...still a level II. He performed a closed capsulotomy. It was rather painful but he was able to get both sides to "pop". He also added accolate to my medicine regimin. I am excited that he was able to break the capsule and happy with how immediately soft and jiggly they became. However, I am a little freaked out by the shape of my leftie. It now seems to protrude more than the other. It didn't do that before he performed the closed capsulotomy. Is this normal and will it go back to its original shape? Can it be fixed? I look like I have two different boobs from two different ladies. ![]() mendi 550 hp silicone unders |

I am not sure I have an answer for why the left side is distorted now, except to say that where the scar tissue ruptured, it created a weakness in the area and the impalnt is bulging in that area now. Closed capsulotomy is an older technique, and can actually do more harm then good. The sheer amount of force it requires to try and break scar tissues can cause trauma to other areas, leading to a build up of scar tissue once again. It can also cause bleeding when the scar tissue tears. Without a way to control that bleeding, it can irritate the tissues and lead to more internal scarring. This is why open capsulotomy or capsulectomy is the preferrred methods now. This is not to say that the closed technique doesn't work, it is just that you do not have as much control when you are not looking directly at the tissues youa re trying to effect. I would check with your surgeon and see what he/she says about the distortion
