Does overfilling change size?

Hi Dr. Pelletiere,

If I were to go with a 375cc implant and filled to 400cc will it look like 400cc? Does the overfilling just reduce rippling. If I receive a 400cc implant it would have to be overfilled making it larger right? Confused by this. Please advise.

Thanks much!

Yes, overfilling can change your size. It depends on how much you overfill the implant, but taking a 375cc implant and filling it only to 375cc vs. filling it to 450cc makes a difference. The base width gets a little smaller, but you gain more projection. If you had a 375cc filled to 450cc, it would be like having a 425-450cc silicone implant.

Overfilling does not void the warranty. Theoretically it could if you really overfilled it by alot, but even in those cases, the manufacturers rarely ask for the total fill volume on the implants themselves. I have never had a leaked saline implant not be covered under the warranty, even when really overfilled. I hope this helps

My PS told me that overfilling does reduce rippling with saline also less chance to have a deflation. MY last PS underfilled my implants and I have rippling really bad.

My PS told me that if I get a 425 and filled it to 525 this will recover the loss of volume going under the muscle is this true? He said he wants to do this because I will get a full 425 is this true? He said it would be 3 cup sizes more. I am so confused with the cc's and cup sizes HELP!

I have never been a big believer that going under the muscle makes you look smaller. The muscle stretches out over the course of the first month, allowing the breast to for a nice shape, be soft, and have nice volume. This happens sooner when the implants are ontop of the muscle, but the end result really should be the same - a 425cc implant really should be the same size under or over the muscle. With regards to overfilling, you always want to overfill the saline implants to some degree. This helps get rid of some of the bigger folds, ripples, etc. Remember - amount of cc does not correspond to a cup size - everyone is different. A 500cc implant on you may and up being a DD, while in someone 6 inches taller, it may look like a large C/D. It al depends on what you have to start out with, your frame, etc. I hope this helps.
