![]() | do I need to take antibiotics?
Hi Dr. Revis, I'm having a gum graft tomorrow and I'm about 2 months 3 1/2 weeks out from my breast augmentation...my dentist (who I'm not sure I completely trust) has not written for antibiotics... I'm worried about infection. My plastic surgeon isn't today so I'm really worried of whether to follow through with my appointment tomorrow if I don't have antibiotics. |

i would get clearance from your PS or i'd cancel the surgery. i hate to say it, but it really is up to the individual physician of whether or not they want you to premed and if you go and have the graft done and for some reason get an infection that invades your implants thats gonna be 100% on you (or if your dentist clears you and that happens then it's on him). however, they say now that premedication does nothing and isn't worth it. to each their own. can you tell i work for a dentist who can't make up his mind? lol |

Hope all went well! I would have covered you with antibiotics also, but there aren't any really good studies addressing whether or not they are completely necessary. However, since antibiotics have such few side effects and an infected implant is a disaster, why not take them? Sincerely, Don Revis, MD www.SouthFloridaPlasticSurgery.com |
