BA scheduled 2 1/2 weeks after thyroid ablation

I'm a mother of 3 beautiful children and I looking forward to a breast augmentation. The issue is that I have Graves Disease and have had it for 2 years. Tried going for remission on anti-thyroid drugs, but it did not work. I'm having the ablation on Nov.6th. Really looking forward to closing the chapter on hyperthyroidism. I will start taking synthyroid 4-6 weeks after the ablation. On Nov. 10th a meet with my Endo to start the anti-thyroid drug again..but only for 2 weeks. Just to get me level as my thyroid dumps all those hormones and I obtain my euthyroid state.

My breast augmentation is scheduled for Nov.23. My Endo says that I should be fine to have the surgery. What do you think as a surgeon? I will not meet with my plastic surgeon until Nov.5th (pre-op). In the meantime I'm looking for some peace and answers. I know that I will have the local IV Sedation and that it will take around 45mins. No lift.

What are your thoughts? Thanks

Thyroid Function

Good afternoon,

You will most likely have no problems at all. However, I am very conservative and given that your hormone levels will be fluctuating during November and surgery can also affect your hormone levels I would think it would be wise to separate the two events. If you were my patient, I would wait until January. Just discuss it with your PS and make sure both of you are entirely comfortable with proceeding.

Best Wishes,
Don Revis, MD
