![]() | Is measuring breast width common practice?
I am 5'1", 105 lbs. My ps put in 325cc Mentor mod profile. They are so wide and tall on me. Apparently mods aren't used very often by other surgeons because they are so wide? I called his office today to see what my breast width was pre-breast augmentation and the office assistant said that she doesn't think that he takes that measurement! My question is: Is measuring the breast width and staying within that for implants a standard practice or do most surgeons just "eyeball it"? What has your experience been with other colleagues and how they practice? I'm so frustrated because this is a very highly credited ps.

Good afternoon, There are a lot of PS out there who "eyeball it" as you say. In fact there are still quite a few who still choose the implant type, style and size for the patient based on "eyeballing it." There are also those PS who say there is no way you can put in more than say 325cc during the first operation. In general it is an outdated approach. I take carefuly measurements from sternal notch to nipple, nipple to crease, and breast base width diameter and use these measurements along with looking at photos, discussing your desired results, and then finally by having you "try the implants on" in the office before selecting the exact implants for each patient. Best Wishes, Don Revis, MD www.BreastAugmentationRevision.com |

My surgeon actually measure my breasts and then he looked at the chart of the implant sizes, and then measured those OVER my breast width to see if it would look right. I have to say it turned out pretty well... My breast augmentation was done yesterday and just now I measured each of my breasts' width, and they both turned up 9 inches (swollen, of course)
