![]() | Clinic/ OR standard of care?
In your opinion, is it safe to extract an implant in a PS's clinic in a regular patient room? Open the crease to clean the pocket? Insert drains? Insert a new implant? Just wondering if this type of thing should not be happening in the OR. My PS seems ok with doing it in his clinic.

I can't really comment on whether it is safe or not, but I'm sure that the better option would be to do it in the OR than in the clinic. That said, my best friend had to get 1 implant taken out 4 weeks post-breast augmentation because the inner stitches ruptured and then the crease got infected. The implant removal and flushing of the pocket was done in the clinic, under local anaesthesia. It turned out OK. In terms of inserting the implant, I would personally be hesitant to have it inserted in the clinic - too germy for my liking. ORs and clinics might both be equally clean (or dirty), but I would just feel better having it done in the OR where things seem cleaner to me. |

Taking an implant out does not matter as much. Putting an implant in deserves a sterile environment. Many surgeons have true ORs in their offices.
