Lifting Restrictions

Hi Doctor,

I had asked this to my PS as well, but I wanted to make sure with another doctor to be safe. I just had my BA on August 5th (saline 450cc moderates placed fully under the muscle). I work in research and development for a pharma company and so there are a lot of arm motions with doing testing and paperwork, and of course getting bottles and some are big stock solutions and such. I came back to work yesterday at the one week mark, and I feel ok. Do you think that is okay?

The reason I ask is because I received an offer from a bigger company doing the same work. Of course, I have to have a physical and drug screen prior, but someone messed up on paperwork and put me down for a lifting test. I was told I don't really have to lift, unless say a package of reagents comes in, and they have me get it once in awhile, which could be up to 50 pounds - but I REALLY doubt I'd have to do that and someone could do it for me if I can't. I really wanted to go to this other company because it's a bigger "name" with more opportunities, but they are now forcing me to do this lifting test, all because of a mess up on paperwork. I was supposed to have it this Thursday - which is impossible. So, they wanted to reschedule Aug28th, so I can start Sept8th. I don't want to keep putting the date later, but I don't want to risk my health and all my results of my BA over a one-time lifting test.

I asked my PS who told me I can do it in 2weeks. I asked again, to be positive, and he said, make it 3 if you feel better. So, Aug 28th is right at the 2 1/2 week mark. Based on my surgery though in your opinion, is it really safe for me to do the lifting test? They won't tell me how much. It could be like 50-70 pounds I'm guessing - which I COULD do, but don't want to risk tearing something. So, do you think that is okay to do the test a lil over 3 weeks after surgery?

Thanks, sorry for the long question!

Lifting after surgery

I tell my patients no heavy lifting over ten pounds for two to three weeks, and not extreme heavy lifting (like over 30-40 lbs) for nearly 6 weeks. Every person's recovery and surgeon instructions vary, so consult with your PS.

Best,
Dr Walden

Sorry to butt in but I have to say, Be careful! My son fell and hurt himself, naturally I ran over and picked him up and man did it hurt! I was laid up on the sofa for another day icing and trying to relax the muscle.
