Painfull squshy spot on ribs

Hi Dr. Walden,

I was wondering if you have ever heard of this:

I just had my breast augmentation yesterday, and I have noticed that under my right breast about an inch under I have a spot that is quite painful when I move around or touch it. Also it feels like it has fluid in the spot, and makes squishy sounds when I press on it. there is no bruising or discoloring at all, nor any visible swelling. Any ideas?

Hi-
This sounds like a localized area of crepitus and edema, fancy words for tissue swelling in the soft tissues that when pressed actually make a squishy or crunchy sound because of the air that is sometimes associated with it. I have seen this occur in the areas of soft tissue and skin around a newly augmented breast such as the upper abdomen and over the breastbone. If it is overly painful, red, or getting bigger, or if you have any shortness of breath, consult your PS so that he or she can examine you to make sure everything is OK.
