Seroma

Hi Dr. Walden,
I just had emergency surgery due to a seroma on right side, I have textured unders. The only thing is, it happened 10 weeks post op. My doctor said there is not a lot published on this happening this far out after surgery, and maybe there might be a link to the textuted, this is the only thing he can think of. Do you have any knowledge on this and why it might have happened so far out. I had been doing high impact cardio hours before the pain came on and I noticed it swelling up, however I had been doing high impact cardio everyday before that too after about the 5 week mark or so.

A little history, I had silicone overs put in Nov 07, immediately had a hematoma on left breast, got cc, went back for textured unders Nov 08, immediately had another left breast hemotoma, both times had to undergo surgery again immed after, I was still in hospital both times. They even tested me for vonwillebrands disease since they said 2 hematomas are very rare. I didn't have the disease though.

Any help on seroma and why this happened??
Thanks!

Texture implants and seromas

I use mainly smooth round gel and saline implants, but have heard of late seromas following augmentation with textureds in other surgeons' practices. Since this is not an implant I use a lot, I would not be able to speak to why exactly it happened. Some experts believe that thin capsules form and become integrated with the textured implant shell and in the pocket, allowing for a space to hold the serous fluid there.

You have had quite a few events related to bleeding and seroma. If I had a patient with your course, I would send her for a complete hematologic workup.

Good Luck
