Incision problem

Hello: I had B/A 10/8/09. Silicone on top of the muscle. My incisions are under. I had original implants in 1984. This was replacement time due to rupture of the oldies! Anyway my right breast incision has been hurting and did from the beginning. My stitches were the kind that dissolved. I went 10/15 for my post op I didnt see my dr. but his PA. She told me I could resume my activities ( I jog or race walk 1 hr daily) I have been doing fine, however my incision on the right side has a small red area and it is pussy. I have cleaned it and put antibotic cream on it. It is right where my bra rubs so I have a bandaid over it. Is there anything else to do? I am supposed to massage and it requires pressing down my implants. Should I stop for a few days. I dont know what to do??

Any suggestion will be appreciated
Thanks

First, I usually have my patients take it easy for 3-4 weeks after surgery in terms of activity. I would avoid anything rubbing on your incision( bra) wear a loose bra or no bra, and if you have drainage from your incision, I would see the doctor or review the care with his staff.

Post Be Careful with infected incision wounds.

I am no doctor, but I have had 2 infections on the same incision site after two operations. The first one my doctor didnt take it so seriously, so I didnt take it that seriously either. And it got to the point where my implant was about to have to be removed. So I asked for a culture.

BUT, the second one i did take seriously, since I had a lot of trouble with the first one. The first thing I would do, is have your doctor take a culture of the wound with a Q-tip, or whatever they use! Send it to the lab, and get the correct anti-biotics for that infection! Very important because I was just PUT on the wrong anti-biotics the first time, several kinds that didnt work, until I demanded a test. It showed that all the kinds of antibiots I took my infection was resistant to them. If you have pus coming out you should take anti-biotics SO WHY WAIT! You take anti-biotics for a sore throat, so why not for $8,000 breasts!!!

Another thing I can tell you just from my own experience and worked for me, is, clean it with alchohol instead of peroxide. I did it with peroxide the first time, it bubbled and I thought it was working, but not! The second time I did it with alcohol, every day, and then put topical cream on it, taped a sterile pad on it for as long as it hurt or felt sore to touch.

For me it took months!!! I then switched to a large bandaid which I cut three times lengthwise, to just cover the incision itself, so not to rub on your bra, and so not to get any chemicals from your clothing that may cause infection. You really don't want to fool around, especially if there is pus coming out. It's better to be safe than sorry. I know!

I would recommend wearing a cotton tank top under the bra. Looks funny but will keep the bra from rubbing on the incision. I'd also definitely see/call my surgeon as you may need a round of antibiotics.
