Saline vs. Silicon in pregnancy?

Hi,

I am planning to get implants in January 2010, with a surgeon who only offers saline, sub-pectoral, through the armpits. I like his practice and his technique, but I am wondering if I am given too few options? I accepted his "saline-only" practice because I assumed saline is safer and his technique leaves no scars on the breasts. Recently, I have been questioning my decision.

In the future, I want to have children and always assumed that saline would be "safest" in case of implant rupture when my breast expand because of pregnancy. Would saline implants really be safer than silicone in this case?

If they are equally safe with pregnancy, then maybe I should think about getting silicone implants instead? I have very little tissue already (32 AA), I would like a more realistic feel, but I do not want to sacrifice the safety.

I value and look forward to your feedback,
Thank you!

I had the exact surgery your plastic surgeon recommends, saline/subpect/axillary incision. I do not regret it for a minute.

I chose saline because I felt more comfortable with the choice because its been used for so long, subpectoral because I wanted a natural look, and axillary because I was going through all of this pain and surgery to improve my breasts and did not want any scars on them. I must say, it is a pain not being able to shave tho!

Good luck on your upcoming BA and decision-making!

i was pregnant with my daughter while having my saline implants and i can say from experience 6 months after my daughter was born one of my saline implants deflated. i was dissapointed this happened but i was also thankful that it was saline implants and not silicone. i still have saline implants now and i do feel safer with them, if you do decide to go with gels go with the cohesive silicone gels because if one ruptures i was told that the gel is'nt runny that it will stay together.

Before BA I was a 32A, now i'm a 38DD CUP,620cc saline implants, In Dec.2009 I'm plan on either switching out my saline implants for cohesive gel implants or stay with saline. My plans are to go a little bit bigger 750cc. Hopefully, this won't be too big, saving up my money now. i have been married to my best friend for 8 years and i have a 6 year old daughter.

The dangers of silicone are pretty much non existent at this point. Its pretty impossible for them to leak and my plastic surgeon said that there would be no dangers with breast feeding. The FDA would not have lifted the ban if there were any dangers. I had little tissue to begin with and my plastic surgeon said that i would have to worry about rippling and they would feel less natural but every plastic surgeon has their preference of what they like to work with. I think you need to feel saline and silicone before making your decision. HTH!
