![]() | Has Anyone Here Had a Repair under Local?
Hi, I am going to have my 4th surgery. I don't handle general anesthesia very well and I prefer local. I've only had local anesthesia once, and it was a pretty bad experience but it was bearable. That time, I was switching to a larger implant due to asymmetry, and my PS also had to cut me laterally to make a larger pocket for it. I know that this revision is a lot more serious because it deals with suturing the bottom of my breasts for fixing the bottoming out. Also, I want to revise the middle area of my left side because it is very close to the right side (similar to symmastia). Has anyone had suturing done under local anesthesia and what does it feel like? I know removing an implant feels kind of funny, but not PAINFUL and unbearable. I just want to know if it is a good/ bad idea to go under local for what I'm doing. Any experiences shared would be appreciated. Thanks |

![]() | Good post! I wondered about that too. My PS said that he could drain some of the saline out of the implant if I found them too big using a local. Bri |

![]() | I did already go under local but for a much simpler reason. I had to switch from a smaller implant to a larger implant. He also had to cut the pocket larger to make more room for the bigger implant. Recovery was a breeze. I also have 325cc, are you feeling that your implants are too large? I'm just wondering if going under local for a bottoming repair will be similar to my previous surgery under local.. if so, I can tolerate it. However, another woman on this forum said it was a horrific experience. It all depends.. just make sure that they numb the area thoroughly because at times I did feel pain due to not numbing it enough.. but it was a very slight pain.. I can kind of deal with pain ok so it was not a HUGE deal. I have to admit it's a bit scary though, seeing my own implant pulled out of me lol

I did not have a repair for bottoming out, but I did have my left implant lowered under a local. I found that experience a little freaky, but I didn't think that it was that bad. To say that there was zero pain would be a lie, but I would chose to do it the same way if I had to do it again. It was uncomfortable when the dr was injecting the local into my crease incisions. I didn't feel him cut at all, but I did feel the blood running down my side. (sorry if to much TMI, but this fits into the "freakiness" of it all) As he was cutting me under the skin to allow the implant to fall lower, I did feel some pinches as the local didn't quite reach that far, but the dr easily fixed that by injecting more of the local in there. As he was stitching me back up I didn't feel a thing. During all of this I was covered by a drape so I could not see what he was doing, but I could see shadows occasionally and that was also a bit freaky. (Especially when he was suturing at the end. I could see his hand raising and lowering as he stitched. To know it was me he was doing this to.....OMG!! lol) As for the pain afterwards, I was not prescribed anything, but did take one left over vicodin at night before bed and that was it. I know this was not exactly what you were looking for, but I am hoping that my experience with a local helps to ease your mind some. Like I said before.....I would do it again. (Although maybe this time I would ask for something to help calm my nerves prior to the surgery! lol) ~Shelly~ |

I had a similar surgery under local.. and it went fine. So do you think that it's okay to get sutures for bottoming out under local perfectly fine? How long does it take for anesthesia to wear off... do u know? I'm afraid my surgery might take too long so I might feel pain after 1-2 hours of him working on me.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had a bottoming out repair...and i was completely under anesthesia. I don't think my ps would have/or uses local to do any of his surgeries. My surgery took about 2 hours for the repair, and he had to put in permanent sutures at my crease line. He left my implants in and worked around them, so he said it was a lot of "work". I don't think i could have handled just being under local...jmo. I was glad to take the happy medicine and have a nice nap..lol Good luck to you....I hope all goes well with your repair.

Just a lil update on this thread: I know a lot of you ladies don't recommend going under local, but I really had this strong feeling that it was much better for me because I don't take general anesthesia very well. I had my revision yesterday.. and it was a breeze! I did not feel any pain at all and the whole time I just talked to the nurses, etc. I actually had a fun time in there HAHA sounds weird but it was not a bad experience at all. The only thing that hurts are the shots. I do appreciate all of your opinions Thanks everyone!
