How long have you had your implants/any complications?

Hi all,

In March of 2013, I will have had my implants for 4 years. While they aren't perfect (I don't expect perfection, my natural breasts were imperfect) I wonder if/when I may encounter any complications. I don't fret about it all the time; lurking the complications thread on this forum plants seeds but, in reality, with implants, the probability of a complication is high, so its best to be conscious of the possibility.

Because I am curious:

1. How long have you had your first set of implants?
2. If you have had a revision, when (how long after the first set) and why?

Thanks!

My first BA was 35 years ago and I had no complications for over 30 years. At one point in the last few years they became very firm but this year they were both found to be leaking so I had a revision a week ago. I am not expecting any complication for another 35 years

1. How long have you had your first set of implants?
Ultimately my implant(s) lasted 7 weeks. I developed a bad staph infection and had the left one explanted on Valentines Day. The right one would have lasted a lot longer but I had to redone at my revision.

2. If you have had a revision, when (how long after the first set) and why?
In total it was just over 8 months. My set lasted 7 weeks, I then went with one implant for 3 months, then had a tissue expander for 3 more months. Finally at just over 8 months post-initial-BA I had a full revision.

I have had my implants for just under a year. I noticed a complication within the first few weeks (symmastia). Just had revision for it last week.

1 year and replaced for size unhappiness, 13 years no issues with 600cc HP's saline. 24 days 1800cc mod plus-explant due to infection/blood supply issues to heal crescent lift wound, 3 months with 1000cc no issues yet but will replace March 1 for bigger and better.

I had BA when I was 31 and developed cc about a year later. It progressed to Grade 3 but I didn't have revision until now at 51. I lost a lot of feeling and after gaining some back over the years I didn't want to lose again with another surgery, and couldn't afford hence the long wait. I had a kind of implant that is no longer on the market. It had a fuzzy coating that apparently deteriorated over time. I think my body kept producing scar tissue to deal with all the little loose fibers. So hoping my new modern implants will not produce cc. I think cc can happen at any time and it seems there is no clear consensus on what causes it - just that it sucks, we can all agree on that! Best wishes to you and hope you remain complication free.

I got my original implants in 1997. The left one ruptured in 2002 ( just switched that one) and then ruptured again 2 months ago. I decided to switch them both out with silicone. They were bigger than I wanted

I had my first set of salines for almost 20 years. They were in perfect condition when I replaced them to go bigger and switch to cohesive gels. That PS over- dissected my pockets and I needed a revision for lateral displacement. I went to Dr Revis for an internal bra, crescent lift and implant exchange and have had this set for 2 1/2 years. All is good.

I'll be 6 years in Feb, '13. Hard to believe it's been that long! Saline unders and no complications so far. Still very happy I had the surgery.

This month marks five years of having my silicone implants. I haven't had any redos or complications. There has been a time a few years ago I felt like they may be getting firm (NOT hard..just a firmness) and I massaged as well as took vitamin E for a few days, then back to super soft again. I'm very happy with my decision

Thanks all! It's good to know that there are many who have had their implants for quite awhile with no issues. My right implant never dropped as far as my left one did, but it isn't a big enough issue to have corrected. Thanks again -

Just over a year with no complications. I'm sooooo happy I did this. If I were ever to have a complication I would get the same size but this time I would get the lift my PS recommended in the first place. It bothers me now that I didn't do it, but not enough to go back under.

I love my girls...they balance me out

I have had mine for 10 years cohesive gel. No problems really. Just don't like the shape and they are really saggy. So I am going to have new ones put in soon with a lift.

I am 2 weeks off being 3 months post op and saw my surgeon with concerns my left implant hasn't been released from the muscle- he confirmed and advised scar tissue from my lift is causing it and I may need a revision. Because of this my breast are uneven- and noticeably different shapes and my left has all natural breast implant at the bottom and not the implant filling it. I have to wait another 3 months to discuss a revision apparently. I'm very very dissapointed.
