Horrible rash, because of silicone???

I broke out Sunday night in a bad rash. At first, I thought it was mosquito bites. It started on my right arm as little bumps, looked and felt just like bug bites. I woke up b/c I was itching so much. Come morning, I was covered in them, and itching like crazy. As the day progressed, I broke out in more bumps, which swelled bigger and got redder, and were soon ALL OVER my body!
I realized that these could not possibly be mosquito bites and went to see my doctor. The first thing he asked me was if I had saline or silicone implants. I immdiatley said saline, and we dismissed the possibility of an allergic reaction to silicone.
He then referred me to a dermatologist the same day, and it clicked in my head that my implants do have a silicone shell! I mentioned this, and she thought it is a definite possibility, but not likely
The rashes have cleared up some since given a prescription steroid, but now I'm really worried.
If I was allergic to silicone, wouldn't it have shown up sooner?

Hey girl! I might not be a great help with your question...but I think that generally if you are allergic to smth it shows up right away...usually... and don't forget the possibility of allergic reaction to anything else...maybe some food or medicine you have been taking? or a combination of both....anyway - DONT PANIC - its good that you went to the doctor, also inform your PS about it...see if he has experienced smth like that before with other patients. I am sure you will be fine since the reaction is already going away little by little...Once I had absolutely the same thing you described and that was a reaction on the medicine (poor quality one...doc said) although I never had any allergy before.
Hope this help! Get better soon!!! And dont worry before you know for sure whats that...

Nat

I also broke out in to a rash after day 1, turns out I was having a reaction to my pain meds. I switched to a different kind and now I am fine!

I would think it would've shown up sooner. Is it possible that you're having an allergic reaction to something else?

I would have to agree with the others hun i think if it was because of the implants then it would show up a lot sooner.

First let me say I'm not thinking you have the same problem as mine looked liked hives. I broke out in a rash and had the same thoughts (I was allergic to silicone). Then I started researching what it could be and a lot of women with implants had allergic reactions to medicines they were taking for the ba. Mine looked like a bad case of hives and were only on my breasts and belly (also had a TT). My ps originally thought I was allergic to the adhesive they use to adhere the bandages. He put me on a steroid and it went away a little and then the minute I stopped them it came back. It ended up I had an infection that was masked. Shortly after my surgeries I had pneumonia and was put on antibiotics. The antibiotics toned down the infection but didn't clear it. Try to think of anything else that could be causing this. Creams, medicine (I've heard you can have a reaction to some meds even after you finished them). Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I'm thinking the odds of this happening so far after the surgery are slim, but my doctors did not want to eliminate the idea completley and wrote it down. I really hope that this is not the case.
So far, the rash thing or whatever this is is starting to clear up and get better, but I hope this doesn't become a periodic thing. I'm going to give my ps a call, hope that the blood test results come back soon.
Thanks again!

As far as I was informed by my PS, there is no such thing as getting an allergy to silicone just because you have implants. Silicone is contained in many things and for sure you have eaten it before and used it in some other way without even knowing. The allergy should break out also in such cases, if you have it. But it didn't.
