Red face Hematoma

Hello all,
This is my first post here. I had a breast lift and augmentation (350cc) 6 days ago. Yesterday I had to have a hematoma the size of an orange removed from my right breast. It was a very scary ordeal! I was wondering if anyone else has had one? Did the hematoma come back?
The whole thing sort of freaked me out and now I'm back at square one recovery wise. It sucks!

Thanks Anne!
You are too sweet. You had your surgery in August? How was the recovery? I feel like it's taking forever now. I know it's only been 6 days but I was told I would heal up really quick.
Love your picture! What do i have to do to post a picture? I don't have a clue.
Thanks so much,
Mel

thanks melanie. once u have about 50 posts (u know where u msg ppl, well u have about 2 that i know of now !) u ask marion for a siggy, she's great, she'll ask u bits about urself and will search for a good pic. my recovery was very slow the first week, really knocked it out of me, i can tell u, my blood pressure dropped during surgery and i had to stay in overnight on a drip. and for the first week i was really weak, when i stood up my legs shook like jelly! i had no strength in any part of my body. u do get there tho, honest, the first week i think i regretted having it done, i thought id be fine, but after ur on the way to recovery, u wont look back, just keep ur chin up and take things as slowly or at what pace ur body tells u xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Melanie, and welcome!

I'm really sorry you had to have another surgery. Wow, a hematoma the size of an orange? That's pretty big!!!! I'm sure your doc has told you to stay away from anything that will thin your blood (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, etc.). Besides doing that, I would just take it really easy. I know a girl that had an AWFUL hematoma, and she had to have surgery to fix it. The hematoma never came back. You can see the pics of her hematoma at http://www.justbreastimplants.com/ga...oma_photos.htm. As you can see, she was in REALLY bad shape.

Please feel free to stick around and ask questions. We're happy to help!

Yeah, as far as I know, she's fine. SHe did have some complications when she had the hematoma surgery. Some sort of allergic reaction to some meds that she was given, but she was fine in the end. She was in a ton of pain tho (before she had the hematoma removed).

I was so afraid of that after surgery. I would check my bruises to make sure I wasn't getting a Hematoma. Those pics are heartbreaking, I cant even imagine.

Yeah, she was in a TON of pain. It was very difficult for her. I can't even imagine. But thankfully she ended up being alright. She sure had a tough time of it for awhile tho!

Other Hematoma chick

Thanks Nikki,
Yes, I saw the other ladies Hematoma picture on the internet in a search. That's how I found this site. Her hematoma was worse then mine. But mine did form at the bottom of the breast like hers. In fact I felt the bulge and I thought it was my implant falling out! My doctor said it was a pretty rare thing to get. Only 2-3% of women get them. It was in my breast left incision. A blood vessel broke. It was probably my fault because was 4 days into recovery and felt so good. So good, that I started doing everything again. Vacuuming, laundry, washed my small dog, and basic minor clean ups. I have two kids so it's hard to sit still. This is not my first time around with plastic surgery. I had a tummy tuck 2 years ago so I knew what I was getting myself into. My doctor's office just kept telling me how I would heal up real quick so I guess I took advantage of that advice. I will taking photo's for my recovery website it anyone would like to see fixmelanie.com.
Anyway, the hematoma was VERY painful. SO painful that I took 2 pain pills and it didn't even touch it. I can give all the details but don't want to freak everyone out! What was worse then the pain was the fear of the unknown. I was scared to death when they told me they had to re operate on me awake!
The actual surgery to fix me was not painful. Pinchy at times but not painful.
I'm feeling better today. Still a little afraid this will come back.
Thanks again,
Mel

anyway, i'm glad to see that you've gotten it removed with no other problems...here's to an otherwise perfect recovery!

unfortunately, this is not very common so we don't know a lot about it...but ask us about back pain and dropping and we can talk all day! we're a friendly bunch. hope you stick around to find out!

Hello again,
Here is what happened exactly. It's from my journal page:
Mel

September 27, 2006: DAY 5 (yesterday) COMPLICATIONS
DAY 6
Well yesterday did not go so well. I had COMPLICATIONS.
Here's how it went. I got up and was feeling good. Real good. I hung out and did some laundry. I vacuumed the living room and then I sat down and did some work on the computer. Nothing strenuous. So at 11:45am my youngest daughter came home from Preschool with my husband. I got up to make her lunch and my right boob had a lot of pain. I quickly made my daughter her lunch (like an idiot) and went right up to my bedroom to lay down. By now my right boob was really hurting. I decided I should check things out so I got a mirror and took a peek. My right boob was very swollen and hot. I called Dr. Stormintons office and talked to a nurse. I asked her if I could have overdone it and now I'm swollen. She said "Yes, that's possible and very normal". She told me to massage and ice the area. So I did. I also took a pain pill because the pain was getting worse.
After an hour I took another pain pill because I was really hurting. Let me just point out that the two pain pills NEVER even touched the amount of pain I was in. After an hour of icing and massaging I was in so much pain that I could hardly talk. I new at this point that something was VERY wrong. I was afraid that some how I had shook my breast implant loose. I called back the doctor's office and told the same nurse what was going on. She told me it could be blood and I should come in. I was in the office within an 45 minutes. The ride over was HELL. I just held my right boob over the bumps and turns. I live in the country and had to go over a very hilly mountain area to get to the doctor's office. Let's just say it REALLY sucked.
Once in the doctor's office I went to check myself in. The receptionist lady was behind a glass sliding thing. She looked at me, turned away and motioned her hand while she was looking at something on the computer. I thought to myself HELL NO and proceeded to bang on the glass, open the glass sliding door, and announced "I'm Melanie Love and I'm in A LOT of pain." They quickly got me into a separate room and within about 10 minutes the nurse came in. The nurse checked out my breast and by this time it was so engorged that beads of blood and fluid where leaking out of the incisions. Dr. Storminton came in soon after ward and had me lay down. We then took off my original incision tape (pinched like a bitch), and undid a few stitches (hurt like a bi*ch). Then he sort or tried to squeeze my breast. Like a zit. Can I just point out that my breast is already sore as hell from the original surgery and is now engorged to the point where it looks like it's going to pop. PAIN people PAIN. Finally he gave me two shots of Novocain and put some type of needle suction thing in there and proceeded to draw out a bunch of blood and fluid. It really hurt at times. I tried to breath through it but my nerves were just a mess. I was so scared.
Dr. Storminton thought the releasing on the fluid would do it but he then realized that I was still bleeding. He said I was bleeding from my lift not the augmentation. He told me I would have to go into the operating room so they could reopen my incision. I was REALLY upset and scared at this point. Of course, the first thing I asked was if I could have a valium. They told me "No". , what is with these doctors? Valium should be like in every room in a jar just like candy!!! So they put a bunch of padding on my right boob and had me walk into the operating room. Same room I had my original surgery. They put the heart monitor thing on my finger and the blood pressure thing on my arm. They wanted to put it on my leg but when it squeezed it made my leg feel like it was cramping so I told them to use my are. My arm that just had lipo 5 days ago. Yeah that sore arm. Dr. Storminton have me about 10 Novocain needles around my incision and left.
He came back after about an half an hour. The two nurses who were there were really nice and talked to me while they prepped me. They put a white cloth in front of my face so I couldn't see what Dr. Storminton was doing. Thank God. They rubbed me down with peroxide and what ever they use. It was cold and I was shaking so bad. They then covered me up which was great because it took away my shivers. Dr. Stormington then proceeded to open me up and look around. He REMOVED A HEMATOMA THE SIZE OF A SMALL ORANGE out of my right breast. A hematoma is a blood clot caused my a blood vessel that bursts. It is a complication that occurs in 2-3% of women having breast augmentation. Dr. Storminton waited a few minutes to see if I was still bleeding. If I was bleeding he was going to quarterize the vessel. If not then they would sew me up. I was kind of hoping they found the vessel that was bleeding but I had stopped. I was stitched up which seemed like it took forever. I will say that I was in very little pain during the surgery. The Novocain worked very well and there was only a few times were I could feel pain. Then they would shoot me up with more Novocain.
After I was done they put lots of gauze padding in my bra. Dr. Storminton did not put surgical tape on the area because he wanted the incision to drain if it had to. I was just glad it was over. I met my husband and kids in the main office and headed home.

Wow. What a great narrative, I was on pins and needles just reading it!

I'm happy they caught it early and was able to perform surgery asap!
