Unhappy Bad news - I have an infection

Oh, girls, I went to see my PS today for my post breast augmentation apointment to remove my stiches and he said I have an infection on my right breast. It is still swollen, red and painful. I knew that breast was 'struggling' compared to the left one that is coming along quite nicely, but didn't suspect it is an infection... He has put me on antibiotics and I have to wait until Saturday to see if there is any improvement... if not... I don't know: more antibiotics? remove the implant? I am so gutted this has happend to me... I can't afford to take more time off from work or the money! plus, I can't help thinking that I have chosen to have this done on me and I can't expect to have anybodies compassion... aggggrrrrrrrrr! Has any of you had an infection? Can I hear of your experiences? I am only 9 days po and I am so not enjoying this at all... hearing possitive news would be great for me. Thank God for this site....

Oh Okara, Im so so sorry...really I am....there's a few girls here that have had and are fighting infections, so they will come along and help you...and I do understand what you're saying about sympathy, but you'll get lots of support and compassion here....
That, I think, was my worry, I got home from the hospital and had one text asking how I was...it was like "she chose this, let her get on with it" but I think people will sympathise with you....xxx

Anne, thank you so much for getting back, girl. To be honest, I can't wait till all this is over and I can enjoy the non-breast related threats as much as the related ones with you girls. This is such a perfect forum for women I feel blessed I have found it. But for the time being, I guess I just have to relax and trust the antibiotics do their job and if not, trust the doctor can find the most optimal solution. I really hope is not too bad. I am normally a possitive and strong person, but this is such a new territory for me, I don't know how serious it is or how worried should I be etc...
Anne, thanks again, you have been very supportive with me here twice already and I really appreciate it.
xx

Pam, Terrie and Tamster are 3 girls on here that I can think of that have or had infections...it doesnt always mean the worst...maybe, and hopefully the antibiotics will work...they will come along soon Okara to help you Im sure x

Hey Okara...I'm so sorry you are dealing with infection. Are you in pain?? It is good that the doctor knows about it, and that you are on antibiotics already. If you can, rest as much as possible, let your body guide you...it is working hard to do it's healing magic, so it's possible you will get very hungry and very tired!!

Is your infection in the incision? Or the breast? Those are two different types and usually treatment is different. Did the doc take a sample of the ooze for a culture?

Unfortunately I had a miserable staph infection in the left pocket, diagnosed about 2 weeks post-op. I had another post-op appt today (I ended up needing explant) and the doc told me something I want to tell you ---and everyone else---he said "You may be too strong!" He said he wants me to tell him every little thing that bothers me from now on. So I say to you, rest when your body says rest, keep up with your temp, WASH YOUR HANDS ALOT, and tell the doc everything. Don't wait until Monday if you are feeling worse, ok?

I almost didn't post, because I feel a bit of a freak for having had one breast explanted and don't want to scare anyone unnecessarily. This is my experience. But I feel I am getting the proper care for my medical condition. Other people may catch their infections and successfully treat with antibiotics. My only advise is to consider yourself in "extended recovery" and give yourself extra time to heal.

Keep us posted!!

I'm so sorry that you have an infection. I'm sending good vibes your way so the antibiotics take care of it soon! I know it's hard but try to stay positive, your body will reward you by healing faster. Stay strong!

And this isnt your fault and you didn't cause this to happen. We all go into in hoping for the best recovery possible, but there are risks and you just happened to be one of the unlucky ones. I hope you clear this hurdle soon!

Terrie, thank you so much. I am so sorry to hear you had to go through this too and I really hope you come out of it successfully.
My infection is inside the breast, not in the incision as this has closed up nicely. The breast is very swollen, red and painful, very painful. I just thought it was slow recovery...
I guess I have to be ready for everything.

Thanks every body for your support!!

Hi there girl!

I'm with you with the frustation , but we have to be patient. I was diagnosed with an infection yesterday as well. Mine is on the left breast, not as bad as our Terrie here on the forum. She actually thought me a lot, because her experience is much worst than mine and She thinks very positive. So, we have to stay positive.

On Sunday I noticed that my left breast was just burning like hell, a little red and oozing very little from a hole that opened up all of a sudden. I saw my ps yesterday and He put me in antibiotics (Augmentin) for 15 days. He squeezed it also and not much came out. Now I'm putting warm crompresses and massaging a lot. We have to wait, think positive and learn from each other experiences. Keep us posted!!!

Thank you so much Pam for your support. Let's stay strong, resting and do as we are told by our doctors. And hope this nasty thing goes away soon...
BTW, I am from the Latin lands in Europe, Spain, though I live in the UK with my partner who claims to be Italian (though he doesn't speak a word of the lingo! but his family is from the country) so we have more than a boobie infection in common!! Take care, chica.

Well, that's good. Do you speak the language? One of my cousins is Doctor in Madrid, Espana. He is a gyno. Where exactly are you from???. My husband doesn't speak Italian either. lol
