Very sad today, just want the pain gone!

It's been 6 mos now since i've had my breast augmentation, and I am finding myself in more and more pain as the days go by. I have gone to several Drs. because they couldn't figure out what was wrong and why my left hand was going numb. After extensive testing, turns out I have 2 compressed disks in my neck and a "pinched nerve" in my left shoulder. I am supposed to go to get steroid shots in my neck and arm tomorrow to see if it helps the pain. Okay, so heres the thing....these are things that normally happen to someone who has had and accident, i haven't. The only think that i can think of is my breast augmentation. I have pain on the same side that has been giving me problems from the very beginning. I understand that i should allow time for nerve ending to heal, etc. but this is kinda ridiculous. I don't think i should be in this much pain.

So, i keep "beating myself up" about it. Keep thinking, was this worth it, will they eventually have to remove the implants to aleviate the pain??

Okay just wanted to vent my arm is killing me rite now just to type.

I wouldn´t be so quick to blame your breast augmentation for these complications...
I too have pinched nerves -
this can happen easier than you think!
Have the Dr.´s told you this? What tests have they done - in order to prove this...
just curious in finding out "How you or they have associated these complications with your breast augmentation" -
I do wish you well and hope that the steroid injections bring you some relief, even if for only a little!

If you have a nerve issue, taking out your implants wouldnt solve the problem since they aren't pinching any nerves...IF the rare instance occurred and the breast augmentation had something to do with it, it would have been some soort of damage that occurred during surgery. I know its tough but I would also try to relax, if you are having anxiety about this could be adding to the pain.

I have a lot of othorpedic problems and 2 pinched nerves myself JMO I really doubt your breast augmentation has a whole lot to do with your pain. I can see where in the recovery process how we have to lay/sleep in positions not comfortable which will irritate another existing pain. This is only my opinion of course since my bulging disc in my back is hurting much more now since I had my breast augmentation only because of sleeping at a 45 for 3 weeks and and shoulders and neck we do lay on that are different in recovery process as well so just wondering if you in the recovery process just made it worse. Anyway I wish you the very best no one wants to be in pain)

Have you tried goin to a chiropractor? I love chiropractors and they have helped me tremendously. I had a pinched nerve when I was pregnant andmy leg would go numb and they made it all better withno drugs or steroids. Its worth a shot! It an help a lot of people! Sorry you are in so much pain

I agree with the above posters. Very highly unlikely this has anything to do with your breast augmentation. Having a pinched nerve is possible, however a pinched nerve itself would not 'cause' discs to compress. This can sometimes happen simply due to aging or other lurking spine issues.
The pinched nerve is very likely due to the spinal compression which I would urge you to get physio/chiro etc for right away. The longer you leave it the higher the risk of disc protrusion or disintegration. (I know, I ended up having to have 2 of my neck vertebrae fused due to a similar but more serious disc issue). Hope you get some relief soon!!

I'm going to give a totally different opinion on this matter. I have had complications of this exact nature, and I still do. I have for the past year had problems with my implants being under the muscle and going to far on my side. I have had steroid injections in my hand and shoulder. I can tell you that it didn't help me at all and it is very painful. My hand on one side goes numb all the time. I can't wear tight anything around my chest or even a bra due to this problem because it is painful. I have never had these problems until my implants were placed under the muscle. No specialty doctors have been able to tell me why. I have done research before and I have read a few articles about the connections with the pectoral muscle and the chest area and also connections from the chest and shoulder. I am now seeking to find someone who will put them above the muscle to try and avoid contact with my nerves all together. I know that this doesn't happen to most women, but it has happened to me. I'll try and find the info and put the web address up.

i've had problems with pinched nerves before (pre breast augmentation) and it is the worst!! i've done pinched the nerves in my shoulder a couple of times by carrying heavy bags etc and lost strength/feeling in my hand for about 1 month. i took anti inflammatory's like neurofen and had to be super carful not to use that whole arm, especially doing stuff like carrying a handbag!!

I haven't had a breast augmentation but I am having issues with pain in my neck and hand. My arm goes cold and numb if I'm doing a lot of repetitive movements. Driving, sitting in the same place for long lengths of time, and stress make it all a lot worse. I sometimes feel a kind of swollen area in the back of my arm when it's bad. Dunno if this is the same thing but I just wanted to throw my experience out there since I haven't had a breast augmentation yet.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I really appreciate your input. I got the shots and it worked for the first couple of days, now the pain is back so i'm not going to continue with them. Also, I think my next step is a chiropractor. I may even try accupuncture!

I highly recommend 5 elements accupuncture - it really is a wonder.

I had some Traditional Chinese Acupuncture in a shopping mall (they have them everywhere here lol), and it was rubbish - they just tried to palm me off with a load of herbs and a really expensive programme.

With 5 elements my pain was gone within the first session.

Massage can help also! I go for a massage every two weeks and when I keep to this schedule I am pain free.

I'm really sorry this is happening to you.
Totally different, but my husband has bone spurs in his BOTH shoulders. He lifts weights-does taekwondo. He's had multiple cortisone shots-they said surgery is next. But it affects everything he does. Causes numbing, tingling, etc.

I hope it gets figured out and you are pain free soon.

I agree with the others who have suggested a chirpractor. They are able to relieve lots of numbness and pain with a series of adjustments and are a lot less painful than shots or surgery.

I have chronic back pain that chiropractic is able to relieve. I also had lots of numbness in my arms several years ago that was helped and eliminated through adjustments.

I hope you feel better.

I also agree with suggestion, consulting a chriopractor. Try to change your sleeping and sitting postures. Don't sit before computer for long time. Do some exercises related to spasms. All the above will help you far better. Take care fo your health. bye...

i do not have implants yet..i am 30 an had "regular" neck pains for 2 years..then 5 months ago my arm started hurting...i went to a chiropractor and it got worse..i ended up in the hopital with a herniated disc and the surgeon wanted to fuse my neck..i said no and am now doing physical therapy, traction, and massages. most think i had a pinched nerve and then the chiro herniated it(i had no injury and he was a very cheap one) I now have a couple numb fingers/arm, and pain in my neck still..i am still going to get on with my life and get the implants. I don't think anything will change much.(im not going real big) I will just have to sit up straight and work out my back muscles, just as im doing now. Implants or not i could have to have a spine surgery someday. Disc problems defenitly change your life. good luck.also, nerve stimulators help pain(look up empi brand)

I would definitely see a Chiropractor. Whenever you have surgery or an injury we 'adapt' our body to help avoid pain. The weight of the implants, plus the way we sleep while recovering, plus the extra 'careful' way we move because we're sore all put stress on our spine. This can cause nerve compression causing numbness and pain. A chiropractor and massage may be just the ticket for you.
