It happens to both, although I heard one of the reasons they started doing unders is because there is supposed to less chance of capsular contracture.

I am sure it happens both ways. But, in my situation I have had it both ways. I can tell you that for me I never had any complications from my above placement saline textured implants in 1994. I had them removed and replaced to go a tad larger. Back then I was really lucky to find a surgeon to place them above. I have had over the past years so many revisions that I am embarrassed to even say. I feel that It's my fault for having messed with them. It's 2009 and over the years I have begged every surgeon who gave me a revision to put them back above due to the pain in my muscles. This last time I went to another state and the surgeon was to put them above this time. Guess he forgot and put them back under. I still have the same problems. So for me it doesn't work under but for most it does. I am waiting for that reason. I have faith that the right surgeon will pass my way, and things will be normal again. I still have silicone and still I can't get them above the muscle.
