![]() | Anything to do to reduce capsular contracture??
I have not yet had my B/A, still waiting on consultations. I have read a little about capsular contracture and since I'll probably be getting unders, I would like to arm myself with any information on Capsular contracture. What should I avoid? Anything I can do to reduce the capsular contractor?? |

My PS told me cc was more prevalent with the "old" silicone implants. Not sure about the new ones. I am unsure if there is actually anything you can do to prevent it, but I will keep an eye on this thread to see what some of the other ladies have to say.

There has been some recent research that has shown that Vitamin E, Echinacea, and an asthma drug called Accolate have been helpful in preventing CC. I don't know how extensive the research is, but there's at least some anecdotal evidence that it seems to be working. The nurse at my PS's office told me that ever since they starting prescribing this, very few women have come back with CC. (And they do silicone overs, which generally have the highest CC rate.) Also be sure to do whatever massaging you are instructed to do.

![]() | non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds
Im 12 days post op and after my PS checked me out to make sure I had no strange fluid collections or swelling he recommended to me to start taking advil/motrin 1 pill 3X a day for six weeks or so to prevent CC. He says it is anecdotal to believe massage or the use of textured implants or whatever can prevent CC and the only evidence he knows of has to do w preventing the low-level inflammation that can occur around the implant. HOWEVER as you know- you can't go ahead and take these without you PS approving because they increase the possibility of bleeding and are bad for people who are getting ready for surgery or just out of surgery. It has to be totally confirmed that you have no tiny bleeds happening in your pocket or this treatment can be much more dangerous than useful. He said all my stuff was "dry as a bone, even during surgery". I guess I'm not a bleeder so he felt OK proceeding to the CC prevention steps. |

my doc prescribed accolate that I have to take for 3 months to help prevent CC. I can take vitamin E too, but I can't take that for a few more weeks after all the swelling is completely gone. .... and he will start me on a massaging regimin starting next week to also help prevent CC. Hopefully, between these three things, it will lessen my chances greatly.

I called my PS and they basically said they do not recommend Accolate due to the possible severe liver damage that it has been linked to. So, he said that would be out of the question. It was Vit E and Massage. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to Vit E!!!! |

Just wanted to put it put there that I eventually called my surgeon's office and they specifically told me they are adamant about NOT prescribing meds like Accolate due to severe side effects like major liver damage. I was pretty much told I'll need to have them replaced. I just keep massaging...don't really know if it's making any difference but it keeps me from totally freaking out. |

Just don't put to much stress on yourself to soon after your breast augmentation. You have already heard about massaging and vit E. There is no proven way but these help |

![]() | This depends on who you talk to. A lot of the PS I consulted online and in person said that with the quality of the new implants this is not true

![]() | Check Mentor & Allergan's info & studies. Both have higher rates of CC w/ silicone gels. This is based on their ongoing research...
