Talking My very fuzzy memoir of my BL/BA 12.21

Ok....I'm not sure why this happened to me since I can't find anyone else on here who seemed to have the same thing happen to them......but here goes....

I went to see my PS for my pre-op 12.20 and found out not only would I need a BL on the right, but a BL on both sides. (I had emailed pics to the DR since he was out-of-state, and gotten kind-of an online consult.) The nurse weighed me (121 lb, 5'3") and had me change into a cape sort of thing. The DR came in, introduced himself, asked me to open the cape and said, "oh, yeah. We're going to need a lift!" So we discussed a periareolar lift (insicion around the nipple, also called Benelli or donut lift), decided on a 320 cc Inamed saline implant under the muscle, which is supposed to put me at a full C post-op. We talked about all the pre surgery instructions, they gave me all my prescriptions, and sent me on my way with an 11 a.m. surgery time the next day!

The next morning I arrived at the center at 10:15 am as instructed, sat in the waiting room just a few minutes then was taken back to a pre-surgery room. There they gave me a HUGE paper gown, a hat, and foot covers. I was weighed again (119 today!) and she started my IV. She took my pre-surg pics, then gave me an antibiotic pill with the least possible amount of water, and said the DR would be in shortly.

The DR came in, made some joke about my EE's, and marked on me. He explained the surgery to me and talked about the sizes we had really talked about, and said the anestesiologist would come talk to me too. After that, my mom was able to come in and we chatted for a while then the nurse came and said were ready, and I got up and walked into the OR.

They helped me up on the table, wrapped my legs in these squeezey things to reduce blood clots, and covered me with the warm blanket. The anestesiologist said this is going to burn a little. Then she said this one is going to burn alot, and go all the way up your arm, and it did. And thats all I remember......

I have fuzzy recollections of my mom helping me in bed at home (I have no memory of recovery, the 45 min ride home, or how I got in my house) and on and off memories of the following 2 days. (I remember eating some soup that night, and my mom trying to tank me up on gatorade) Christmas Eve was post-surg day 3 and I went to my family functions but hardly remember any of it.I keep finding gifts I don't remember getting!! I finally started staying awake more around day 4 but I hurt SOOOOOOOO bad. Every movement of my arms hurt so bad. FYI- the DR perscribed demerol for pain and flexeril as a muscle relaxer. I was finally able to drive around day 5 but could barely turn the wheel. Finally around day 7 and 8 I started feeling better and getting out and by day 10 was at a New Year's party toasting the New Year (non-alcoholic per DR orders!)

I am no newbie to surg.- I had 3 c-sections, but this was by-far the worst recovery of all. I think because you use your arms for everything!!

Today is day 12 and I drove my self back home (10 hours, 600 miles) and feel great!! Tomorrow is my first day back at work and I'm ready.

I was cleared this morning to lift up to 20 lbs and resume light exercise (like walking) I don't have to wear the compression band that goes above the breasts anymore (thank goodness, was not comfy) and just have to wear a sport bra for 4 more weeks then I am a free woman!!

All in all, I am so glad I did it and LOVE my results. They are exactly what I wanted and look perfect!!! Absolutely worth every minute of misery.....LOL

I'm having my BA in about a weeks time and am starting to get nervous about the recovery. You didn't sound like you were having a lot of fun but I was glad to see that you came out on the other side of it feeling like it was all worth it and with great results. Congratulations!!

Wow, you are brave to have surgery so close to the Holidays! I can't even imagine what would go on around here if I did that! LOL!

But it sounds like fun finding gifts you didn't remember you received! Second Christmas! yay!

Take it easy... They sound like they will be great!

Congrats! That is so funny how you have so little memory of it all. Maybe you just reacted differently to all the medicine? Well, I'm happy you love your results.

I also had a similar story. I had my BA on Dec 27th and I have funny memories of little things I said and did the first four days after. When I checked my bank account the other day I noticed I had gone to Dunkin Donuts and don't remember that I had went. I also remember saying so pretty funny things to the Doc the day after for my check up. Funny how the meds can effect you. Glad you are feeling better. Good luck with the new additions!!!!

Oh don't worry....just plan on having plenty of help the first few days. I think I just reacted to the pain meds (I sort of had the same thing happen after my c-sections....I was totally out of it while taking them). I also have 3 small children (6, 4, 15 mo.) and am so glad I had Grandma to take care of them. The recovery after the BA was more painful to me than the c-sections I think because you are constantly trying to regain use of your arms and if you go under the muscle those muscles are not happy for the first few days. They are EXTREMELY tender. Good luck to you, and if your hubby has a week off I think you should do just fine- I was feeling pretty good on day 7, just a little sore. But like I said, it is sooooooo worth every minute of recovery (alot like the c-section!)
