Deon's BA story
My story is pretty boring, and thankfully, uneventful. Woke up pretty early that morning. I was scared, and nervous, and anxious. I didn't mind not eating, I probably couldn't have anyway. But I sure missed my morning coffee. Anyway, we arrived at the surgery center 20 minutes early. I was checked in, signed some papers and was sent upstairs to outpatient surgery. Once I was called back, the nurse went over some more forms with me. I signed those and got changed.
The anesthesiologist was a woman about my age, very cool and confident. She started my IV and sent for my family. My mother and fiance came back to wait with me. Mom said a prayer, which calmed me down quite a bit. The anesthesiologist came back in and put something in my IV to calm me. That didn't make my PS very happy, as I was quite loopy by the time he came in. I don't remember him sitting me up and drawing on me, but my fiance said I had a conversation with him. Luckily, my Honey had written down our last minute questions and talked with the doctor for me. By then, I was in La La Land. lol I was wheeled into the OR and scooted onto the operating table. An oxygen mask was placed over my face and I felt my arms being manipulated. I guess that's when they strapped me down. I don't remember. Next thing I know, a young nurse was speaking to me and I was actually answering her. I had ice on my chest, and an ace bandage wrapped around me, but not much pain. I just felt tight and sore. It really did feel like I'd had a good workout. Soon, I was dressed and taken out in a wheel chair. The ride home was pretty uneventful, as was the first night. No pain, just a tight, sore feeling. I was taking Bromelain and Arnica so I had no swelling or bruising. Day 2- I guess the medication has worn off because I have soreness in my ribs and burning in my left nipple. I haven't been able to sleep more than an hour at a time. My back cramps up terribly when I lay down. I've tried every angle imaginable, but nothing helps. I'm going to my first post-op in a couple of hours. Doc will take the bandage off and I'll get my first look at my new girls. I can definitely see they're there, but I can't see them clearly. Hopefully, he'll give me something to help me sleep because I'm exhausted. Exhausted, but happy!! |

congrats!
on the back pain, I found it helpful to give myself plenty of lumbar support and a pillow under my knees (almost like I made a mock recliner in my bed) A neck pillow helps a lot too. I had to dose up on sleeping pills at first, so maybe a benadryl before bed will help. Fingers crossed!

Hi Deon,
Thanks for posting your experience, I hope you are feeling better everyday. Sorry you're not sleeping well ... I fear this too as I am not used to sleeping on my back. My PS also recommended I take Bromlein and Arnica Montana, 3 days before and 5 days post surgery (my surgery is next week, 1/24). Is that the same as you were told to do? It sounds like it did help with the bruising and swelling... ? |

Hi Deon
So happy for you! You must be so excited to see them. I guess every Dr is diff. Mine said I;ll go home with nothing, those girls will be hanging right there! Hope you get some rest soon. My PS also suggested Tylenol Pm or just the PM part to help you sleep. 5 more days for me! |

Congrats! Glad you've had a fairly easy time so far. A hint for the aching back--- use a heating pad. It really helped me. Just be sure to keep it away from your healing boobies. Ice for the boobs/heat for the back.

Glad to hear things are going well...
I was also given Bromelain and Arnica Montana by my PS...I've had minimal swelling and absolutely no bruising. I had my post op appt. yesterday and my PS and his ARNP both agreed things looked perfect.
His ARNP commented that some people just swell and bruise more than others...we'll never know what things may have been like if I had not been on the Bromelain and the AM but, I must admit, I think they helped ![]() Best of luck and Happy Healing!! |
