Wocky's BA and TT story!

I know there are lots of you out there who are contemplating doing both procedures at the same time, so hopefully my story will help!

(keep in mind, I'm currently on Percocet and am not at my most lucid nor eloquent. Please forgive all teh typos, too!)

I arrived the morning of Feb 5 at 6am and signed papers at the pre-op station. Then, I was shown to a pre-op room where I was given those sexy long white compression stockings to wear. Plus 2 gowns and socks with rubber bottoms. I waited in there for another 30 minutes, boiling over with anxiety. I was also feeling LONELY since my hubby had to stay home with the kids, What I wouldn't have given to have a buddy there with me to hold my hand!

A registrar came in and took my final payment. THen the nurse finally came in and hooked me up to my IV. Of course, there weren't any good veins in my hands, so she wrapped them in a warm blanket for a few minutes before trying again. This time, she was able to tap out a couple good veins. First went the lidocaine shot -- just a tiny ouchie, then the big ole IV which didn't hurt much at all.

Next, the anesthesiologist came in to discuss any concerns about anesthesia. I told him the only concern I had was nausea upon wakeup and with usage of the post-op patient-controlled anesthesia. I had HORRIBLE nauseua with a previous surgery and didn't want a repeat of that. He assured me that he'd put anti-nausea meds before, during, and after my surgery into my IV.

Then, I sat in there and waited some more. 20 minutes later, the OR nurse came to take me to to teh OR. She chatted away about this and that, and did a great job of keeping me distracted from my nervousness. After she put on my sexy "shower cap," I leaned back against the operating table so the PS could mark me up. She marked me pretty much all over, front and back (since I was also getting flank lipo). Then they had me get up on the table, when I asked in a LOUD voice (wanted to be sure I was head), "You're going to cathereize me AFTER I'm out, right? Because the last time I was catheterized, I was awake and felt everything!" They assured me that they wouldn't do that to me.

Then the anesthesiologist started asking me about where my favorite place to vacation is. I said, Cabo San Lucas, but only if it's without kids. Haha. THey all had a good laugh over that. I started to feel kinda, slow. Kinda out of it. So I asked him, "DId you just put something in my IV?" he said, "I sure did." Next thing I know, I'm waking up. I *think* I said, "This is when I'm supposed to say Are you going to start the surgery yet?" And I think I remember some nurse laughing and saying, I guess so. BUt you're all done now. My hour in the recovery room was REALLY foggy. In fact I remember NOTHING more about it. I vaguely recall some tightness around my chest, but that's all. I had no nausea, and I had no difficulty breathing. The only thing I remember was when they were transferring me to my room, the 2 orderlies were smiling, nice guys and one said, "Your chariot awaits!"

For the rest of that day, as the anesthesia wore off, the tightness around my chest became more apparent...but it was never painful. The most discomfort I had was around my abs. The TT incision didn't hurt, though. During a wound check, my nurse noticed that I was bleeding a lot from my TT incision. So she called PS, who hurried over (I guess she was eating dinner at home), who put in a few more stitches. Apparently, some had busted apart. She put in the 5 extra stitches WITHOUT anesthesia and I can tell you that hurt like a bizzatch!

After that panicky ordeal during which I shed some tears, I tried to get some rest. Thing is, when you have an IV in, you have to pee constantly. Trying to get out of bed was H-A-R-D. Finding just the right positions and moves that wouldn't strain my abs or chest was next to impossible....I found that having the nurse PUSH or PULL me to a sitting position was the best thing. It was a pain in the butt getting up to pee literally every hour at night, especially given how tired I was. But at least it got me used to getting in and out of bed!

The day after surgery, I practiced walking up and down the hallway a lot. It felt good to walk around and wasn't painful at all. Just sore and uncomfortable.

I was supposed to be discharged that morning, but I decided to stay a second night because I was still feeling so low. It was a good thing, because on the second evening after my surgery, I was in A LOT of discomfort. The anesthesia had fully worn off by then and my lower back was killing me from all the hunching. My abs were super sore. The LEAST of my concerns was my chest, which only ached slightly. They gave me ativan in addition to my regular percocet so I was able to sleep like a baby the second night. It made a huge difference because I felt like a million bucks this morning! Except for the super-painful coughing (which is only alleviated by my hubby pressing down HARD on my abs), I feel GREAT. Emptying the drains is no big deal at all. And I have a super-comfy La-Z-Boy rocking recliner that is just awesome.

I just realized I haven't talked about the flank lipo part. Well, there isn't much to tell! Unless I touch it, it doesn't bother me at all. It's bruised and probably swollen, but like the boobs, it's not a big concern right now.

Was having a BA done together with FTT/MR and flank lipo worth it? YES. There is a lot of discomfort but it's not intolerable at all.

In hindsight, would I have done these procedures separately? NO! Why have two recoveries when you can have one. And the pain really isn't bad at all if you keep up on your pain meds.

If I had done a BA *only* , I'd probably be shopping at the mall right now! In comparison to the TT, it was a piece of cake! Well, at least so far. I'm only 2 days out, heehe! All I feel is some tightness around the skin and some itchiness, but that's it. I can use my arms fairly well and can even reach above my head without pain.

So, that's my story folks! Sorry it was so long, I just wanted it to be helpful for others. My hubby is busy keeping the kids and dog fed, and as for keeping the house clean? Fuhgeddaboutit! I told him he could let that part slide, poor guy.

ETA: My PS went with 200ccs, through the nipple! They're swollen right now but I can tell they're exactly what I want -- petite and perky!

You sound wonderful! Thanks for the detailed description. One day when I finally talk DH into letting me get that MTT and flank lipo, I'll have lots of info to fall back on. Take it easy and rest up.

Good deal! I just had my TT/BA this morning and I have to tell you that the pain is not as bad as I anticipated! Drugs help, I am sure. I expected to be bed ridden for a few days but I have been up and walking around. I didn't stay overnight in the hospital though. My surgery was at 7:30 and I was home by 3 pm. Glad to hear you are feeling well!

WOW! You are Superwoman! Home by 3pm on the day OF your BA/TT surgery?? I feel like such a wussy! lol. My drugs have been wonderful, but I'm starting to get nauseated by the Percocet. And my drain sites are starting to sting and burn, ouch! I hear you get used to it, though. Best of luck to you in your recovery! Sounds like you're already doing awesome, though!
