My Revision Story

Hi Ladies! A lot of you are already familiar with my story, but thought I would post some details here in this thread. I need to update this once I speak with my PS tomorrow at my second post-op to give really really thorough details, but here is the basic thing.

I have a history of having tumors in my left breast - fibroaedonomas (non-cancerous). The first one was diagnosed and removed when I was 18 years old - from the upper pole of my left breast. It was golf-ball sized. They took it out through an areaolar incision. Basically left a teeny little "nothing" scar but did take out all of the top pole of that breast. I was eligible for a reconstruction at that point, but I was very nervous about not being able to breast feed AND it was when the whole silicone scare thing was going on so I decided to just go lopsided. LOL

Years passed - I had my two daughters and nursed them successfully although output was always less on the left than the right - still it was more than enough. Never thought much about my breasts - I always had to hide the fact that one was obviously smaller than the other one but I'd gotten used to it.

A few years ago I noticed a tumor developing in the lower part of my left breast. My gynecologist and I mammogramed it, ultrasounded it, and were pretty satisfied that it was another fibroaedonoma. I just stayed really calm about it and didn't "ignore" it but it didn't bother me that it was there, having been through it before.

But it kept getting bigger. And I began to get concerned that, at age 41, I was becoming a little cavalier about the fact that I had a large tumor in my breast.

So I went to see a surgeon - he said remove it. When to have a BA consult to see if I'd be eligible for a redo because it would remove the entire lower pole of the breast - she said yes, and yes she would do it - she specializes in reconstructions. And she highly recommended that I remove it as well.

In July 2007 I had the surgery to remove the fibroaedonoma and it was larger than they expected - they had to tuck up a lot of breast tissue, and NOW my breast was so so different in size, shape, EVERYTHING that there was no doubt I'd qualify for breast reconstruction.

I had the first BA surgery November 2007; discovered that I had no lower pectoralis muscle on my left side to place the implant under, and she was afraid that my tissue would not support the implant if she lowered the crease, so she placed the implant and hoped that the crease would lower enough to look even. It didn't. And then the implant became hard also. We think it's because she put it into a space that wasn't big enough for the implant - but she only did that because she felt it wouldn't work to make the pocket bigger. ANYWAY...

It became obvious I would have to be redone. So I did that on March 3, 2008, went in, got the anesthesiologist that I LOVE, had no problems with the surgery - felt a little nauseated afterward - she lowered the crease, I don't know if there was a capsule there to release - I have to ask her tomorrow; she put in a larger implant, and so far the results are very encouraging!!

When I took a sneak peak at my revised breast at home and saw fullness and actual breast under the left nipple, AND a beautiful swell in the upper pole of the chest, I nearly cried!! It was the first time I'd seen that breast look normal since I was 17!!!

I still have the drain and I'm going to see the PS tomorrow so I will update this tomorrow to let you all know whether there was or was not a capsule that had been formed and released. But so far so good!!!

Hi blueayes! Thanks!

I had my drain out today. It must have been pretty "angry" because the PS gave me two little Lidocaine shots at the site... And dressed it and told me not to shower until tomorrow - which is different from last time. And I notice blood on the dressing. I don't know why but those drains just don't like me! LOL

But I feel good now and I'm scheduled to go to work tomorrow. Thanks for checking in on me!
