Talking My twins have arrived!

Hello everyone. I haven't really posted anything since my introduction but I've lurked here for quite some time.
I'm 4 hours post-op and figured I'd tell my story, especially for those who are working with Dr. Kim Short in Indy for their BAs.

To begin with, Dr. Short rocks and everything about the Gillian Institute is just incredible. They really work hard to make you feel comfortable and treat you like a superstar. I now know why they come so highly recommended.

I've been working on having a BA for many, many years but something always fell apart right before I could make it happen. This time, from consult to pre-op to BA day, my journey took only a couple weeks. Usually there is quite the wait to get in for a BA with Dr. Short but I guess the stars were aligned properly or my karma fairy was working overtime or something LOL.

Anyway, I went in this morning at 11:30 am and was in the OR suite by 12:30. The whole thing took about an hour and a half and after about 30 minutes in recovery, they sent me on my way. So how am I feeling? Awesome, totally jazzed and grinning from ear to ear. I think I've had worse pain with pre-menstrual boobs than what I'm experiencing right now. I'm wearing my frozen peas and have an ace wrap around the twins but haven't needed any pain meds at all so far. They let me take a look before they wrapped me up and I have to say, I'm THRILLED with the outcome. It was kind of iffy for a while about how much I was going to get because Dr. Short wanted to be a bit conservative but in the end, I've got 375 cc's in each breast (overs, smooth, saline) and they look great. I'm thinking this is going to put me at a very generous C or baby D which is precisely what I wanted.

The really cool part of my surgery might freak some people out but I was totally awake and lucid for the whole thing. I took 5mg valium and had a quick shot of fentanyl but that was all. I was able to chat with the doc and anesthesiologist through the whole thing and aside of some freaky tugging sensations here and there, I had no pain whatsoever. While they were slicing, stuffing and filling, we just chatted as if we were having coffee together.

I highly recommend this method of surgery if you have apprehension over general or twilight anesthesia. As scary as it sounds to do it the way I did, I can assure you it's less of a hassle than say...a root canal. Another good thing about going local only is that the prep time and post op observation time are shortened and you can go home almost immediately after the procedure. If I'd known that everything was going to be this easy, I'd have done this years ago.

They sent me home with enough pain meds to put down a horse. I'm hoping I don't need them as I really try not to ever take anything stronger than regular tylenol. Of course I may be eating those words in a few hours.

Good luck to everyone with upcoming BA dates. May your surgery be every bit as awesome and trouble free as what I just experienced.

I'm doing great, thanks for asking.

Yesterday, gravity was not my friend. Every time I stood up or changed position in bed, my boobs felt like they weighed a ton each and boy did they hurt. I went ahead and took the valium/demerol combo that the doc prescribed and pretty much slept through the day.

Before I went to bed last night I took a dose of arnica montana and used arnica gel on the twins before rewrapping them and it made a world of difference in how I feel today. Other than feeling totally exhausted, I have no pain, almost no bruising, and a lot of the swelling has subsided. A few hours ago I went shopping with my daughter and although it made me really tired, I didn't have any discomfort at all and so far I haven't needed the pain meds or ice.

Indymom, that is so awesome to hear!!! I'm so happy for you!! I'm really glad you are having a remarkable recovery. Dr. Short was my first choice as I was setting up my consults but Dr. Vannatta was able to get me in for a consult a lot sooner and I ended up falling in love with him! He has a remarkable personality and I was really impressed with how great we got along and how easy he was to talk with and ask questions. He does the rapid recovery procedure and I've talked with another lady on here that had it done recently and I'm so excited about it. Anyway, just wanted to tell you congrats on your obviously wonderful BA and here's to a continued easy and hopefully quick recovery! CONGRATS. I'm so looking forward to my day!
