It was my turn... Long;)

We went in yesterday. The surgical center is about 4 hours from where we live so we left early and got there about an hour earlier than needed. So we walked around Target for a while. I was doing pretty well at not getting nervous! The ps didn't want to give me any Valium or anything because he doesn't want to chance it interfering with the anesthesia.

So I went in for the pre-op which was quick and no big deal then we waited. The procedure before me ended up taking a while. Dh did really well at just hanging out and being calm! I expected him to be more tense because I couldn't really get a good feel for how he was taking all of it. He had said he didn't care if I got this done but made sure I wasn't doing it FOR him. But I couldn't sense any excitement or anything in him. But he wasn't suggesting that I back out either. During that time we were visited by the anesthesiologist and the doctor who drew on me Dh still didn't freak.

Finally they came and wheeled me back to the OR which was FREEZING cold. I had some compression stockings on and they put some boots on, centered me on the table and that is the last I remember! I don't remember going under at all, which is weird because I do remember that from other surgeries.

Anyway, the next thing I knew I woke up in recovery. The woman was great and I felt no nausea or anything. I was having a lot of pain under my left breast and asked for something. She gave me some Demerol and then she left. They brought my husband back and then another nurse took over. He was the worst nurse I could have ever asked for. Kept bumping my bed, jerking me around, and kept asking if I was ready to leave. Finally I said YES! Leaving has to be better than being here. I wasn't even in terrible pain but by the time he and banged me around some more taking out my IV and yanking the bp cuff off the left side that was so sore, I was in tears. He was asking if I was okay and I was like, Yes, I'm fine let's just get me out of here!

So hubby and I went to our motel room and he made sure I had everything I needed then he ran some errands while I slept. I felt really good last night, sore but felt good. Still no nausea.

Woke up this morning and took a pain pill on an empty stomach. BAD idea. I couldn't eat much for breakfast and had to take some Phenergan but felt better quickly. Just super tired and sore. The ps told me to take the pain meds every six hours but I can't wait that long, I tried today and ended up in so much pain after 5 that I was in tears again. My post op appt went well, it was funny, there were several other ladies in the room that looked like I did.... "dear God make me feel better"lol

He gave me the strap to wear and said to come back in two weeks. Said everything looks good. I feel like I'm super engorged with clogged milk ducts and all. The incisions hurt a little but the main pain comes from the top of my breasts which feel HUGE!! And of course they are all misshapen right now, which I am assuming is perfectly normal, just nothing to show off yet.

Anyway, now that it's all over and done, hubby is definitely showing excitement now! I think he was just trying not to influence my decision at all and making it MY decision totally. He's been great at helping me so far and said he can see that he's not used to being a gentleman I think I tried doing too much - opening doors, etc, - and we both realized that I need to take it even easier than that. I'm totally excited but I'm in enough discomfort to not be TOO excited yet...lol

I noticed when I got cold that my nipples perked right up, which I am hoping is a good sign as far as sensation. The ps told me to start massaging them tomorrow. By massage, he means push in and down on the top for ten seconds, ten repetitions and then in and together on the sides. He said I can push from the middle out if I want to but it's not as critical. I'm curious what everyone else's experiences are with massage. I expected it to involve more kneading, if that makes sense.

That's all I can remember for now!!! Hope it made sense!

That all definitely made sense - thanks for sharing!!!

My ba is in 6 days and I am dreading the cold OR part! Brrrrr. Sorry to hear your second nurse wasn't the best - luckily you didn't have to hang around there too long!

Take good care of yourself and let dh practice being a gentleman all of the time!!

Here's to happy healing and a quick recovery!

Sounds like a positive experience. MY turn is next Friday and I"m starting to get anxious/nervous. It's reassuring to hear yours went so well. Please keep us posted on your recovery.

Congratulations!

Congrats on your surgery! Take it easy and get plenty of rest. My massage is up, down and in. No kneading although I do it a little bit to get relief from the tightness. Kind of like massaging when I was engorged with milk. Best wishes to a speedy recovery!
