My very long interstate ba story
Firstly, thanks so much for this website. I have spent a lot of time on here researching and reading stories, and felt so much better prepared for what I was going to do.
The surgeon I finally decided to go with operates in both Sydney, out of a hospital, and Brisbane, where he has his own rooms. Sydney is a lot closer to home (about a 3 hour drive) however my partner and I eventually decided to fly to Queensland for the procedure. All going to plan, we would be away for 3 nights. My procedure was booked for 8am, Tuesday 18 March. We would fly out from home lunchtime on the Monday. Anyway, I cleaned my house (sort of), changed the sheets, and set up a bed for myself in the living room. I had no idea what I would or wouldn’t be able to do on my return. I was feeling quite nervous, my biggest fears were about pain, and waking up during the surgery (I was having the procedure under twilight sedation). Finally, it was Monday morning. We finished our packing, dropped my pets off at their “hotel”, and off to the airport. On arrival in Brisbane we collected our rental car and headed for the hotel. Yay, recliner chair in the living room. We threw down our bags and ran for the bank. From there we went to the doctor’s, however they had closed by the time we got there, so no chance for a look around. Back to the hotel (just around the corner), where I made sure everything was organised for the following morning. The next morning I woke up at 630am feeling surprising calm; this lasted until about 720am. Then I started shaking and thought I was going to vomit. Bad attack of nerves, as if the last few weeks haven’t already been bad enough! By the time I got out of the bathroom it was 750am, 10 mins and I had to be there. I grabbed my bag and pillow for the car trip back, and we ran out the door. Upon arrival at the surgery centre, I realised I had left all my paperwork back at the hotel. Mark was going to run back and get it, but they decided it would be easier to just redo it. Sat there and redid paperwork as well as a lot more, Mark paid the balance owing, then the nurse came out and said they were ready to take me through. Gave Mark a kiss, he was told I should be done by about 1030am. He decided that he was going to have a look around the shops while I was in surgery. The nurse took me through to another room, where we went through my medical history and double checked my current medications. I suffer from severe migraines, and regularly use strong medications for these, as well as carry a narcotic drug (to be given by a dr only). The meds I was prescribed for post-op pain relief were the same as the ones I usually take when I have migraines, so I was worried they wouldn’t work very well. She hooked up an IV and took some blood. Then my dr came in. He took photos then marked me up. He took a lot of time doing the marking, making sure he was perfectly happy. I put on my lovely hospital clothes, the nurse gave me an antibiotic through the IV, and then she took me through to the surgery room. It was really cold, so she gave me some blankets straight away. Then my hands were taped to the arm rests, which I was expecting, but found really quite scary. Dr came in with another nurse; they joked around a bit getting ready, then dr came and painted me with betadine. This was freezing. Then dr said to give me some drugs (they use local anaesthetic and pethidine). He told me the drugs are started slowly, to see how people respond, and then I was out cold. I woke up a little bit about 2 times during the procedure; however I was completely relaxed and did not panic like I thought I would if this happened. Once I remember them telling me to stop kicking, and the other time I felt a kind of pulling sensation on my left breast. Both times I mumbled, and that was it, back out cold. I woke up from the surgery feeling ok. The first thing I did was have a peek down my top, the nurse came in behind me while I was doing this and started laughing. She asked how I was feeling, and got me a glass of water. I had a few sips of water and sat up in bed. There was a clock on the wall, it was nearly 1130am. I thought Mark might be starting to get a bit worried. The nurse came back soon after, and checked how I was. I told her I was ready to go so she went to give Mark a call, but he turned up as we walked out to the phone. We went back to the hotel, and I went to sleep for a few hours. When I woke up I decided it was time for another peek, so into the bathroom with all those mirrors. Mark came in and burst out laughing, said I looked like I had implants in my stomach! It was huge. My chest was high and flattish. I spent most of the day sleeping. The next day I woke up feeling ok still. I didn’t have my check-up until 1245pm, so I decided to go and get a manicure. Mark dropped me off at the nail shop, and I walked back to the hotel afterwards. Then we walked to the dr’s for my check-up. All looking good, so back to the hotel, with another appt for 830am the following day. That afternoon we went for a drive to a bike shop, where Mark got a few things, then back to the hotel. We went out for another drive that night. Although I was feeling alright, I didn't have much energy. Thursday morning I woke up with a migraine I couldn’t stop, lucky I had an appt nice and early. I went for my check-up, and was given an injection while I was there. We left the dr’s, checked out of the hotel, and off to the airport. The rest of the day is a blur. I was expecting a bit of noise from my implants after reading some of the stories on here, but my left side sounded like it was farting for about 5 days, every time I moved. I am very petite, so I ended up with: 230cc smooth round silicone, under the muscle, with a crease incision. I am now 13 days out, and loving my new look. Andrea |

Thank you all very much.
I have read a few stories about people having moments of consciousness when having twilight sedation. Others are just out cold, so who knows. I guess it has a lot to do with what drugs they use, and your own tolerence. I would happily have twilight sedation again, I have never recovered from GA as quickly and easily as I did from this. Thanks again. Andrea |
