Talking On the other side

Yay! I'm here! I can't believe my surgery has come and gone already. I have to say that I am thankful they make you prepay at your preop because I experienced serious cold feet the week leading up to my surgery. This is a decision I was not taking lightly, I have been planning for it for 4 + years, but when it was close I became extremly nervous. Anywhoo enough of all of that...

My two and a half year old must have known something was up because between the two of us we didn't sleep at all the night before. We were up bright and early at 5:45 and I helped get the girls dressed and breakfasted. It was rough feeding everyone and not having that much desired cup of coffee. My husband and I ended up leaving late, since he misunderstood the difference between a quarter after seven and a quarter to seven, but none-the-less we made it only a few minutes late. I was the first on the schedule that morning so I received a lot of one on one attention from all of the staff. I had to go through the normal: pee in a cup, change into my lovely gown, booties and hair net and have my bp taken. It still amazes me how my BP is always so much higher in the PS office vs the regular doctor or CVS. (not that it was high, but higher than normal). We sat around for a few minutes while they prepared the OR, which was nice. It gave me a chance to chat with my hubby and he made me laugh. I needed it, I was a little uptight. The nurse anesthesiologist came in and explained all about general anesthesia we went through health questions and then came the iv. I have to say the numbing shot was much more painful than the actual iv needle. Next I waited for the doctor to come over and draw on me. He made his marks, asked me my thoughts on two different implants in different sizes with slightly different projections. I told him to put in what he thought would look better. My goal was C- (not too big) and I wanted the HP because as a runner I don't need a lot of side boobage, plus I have a small frame/ribcage. After the drawing I laid back on the bed, the nurse gave me some medicine to relax and my hubby was escorted out to the waiting room. I literally was wheeled 10 feet to the OR, but I honestly don't remember any of it. I came to and was being fed ice chips by another nurse assistant. I remember feeling very groggy and in a LOT of pain. They continually asked if I brought my pain meds with me. Which I was not informed to do, so of course I did not have them. They said they gave me something to help, but it did little. The ride home was rough, every bump was very painful. We arrived at my house and my house cleaner was running late (OF ALL DAYS! oh and not that I am overly priviliged, but I work full time and have two small children and when I went back to work in the fall that was one of my conditions, otherwise there is not enough time in the day and I do not get enough time to spend with my girls). Anyway, got home, sat in the recliner rocking chair and slept for a bit. Woke up and was still in pain (which after recovering so smoothly from my c-sections I was not expecting). I finally figured out that I was not taking the full dose of pain meds that I was prescribed and after that was in order the pain subsided. (IMPORTANT NOTE: READ THE LABEL AND TAKE THE MAX DOSE AT FIRST, DON'T BE A ROCKSTAR) I slept through the night fairly well. Friday was a good day, I was able to be up moving around a little. Went to my post-op appt. and everything went well there. I was given my beautiful bra with a built in banadeu strap which I have to wear for 3 weeks. After that outing though I was WHOOPED! Grumpy and tired. I came back home, took my meds and slept through the rest of the afternoon and evening. Thank goodness for my step-mom and hubby. This morning I woke up and took care of the girls on my own for 3 hours, it was slightly exhausting, but I did it. Took another nap when hubby came home from the airport. Sleep sleep sleep. I am doing a lot of that. All in all the pain is MUCH better today. I just have to becareful not to try to do too much. The last thing I need is a hematoma.

I am happy this far with the size, they are a little swollen and will go down, which I am ok with. I still have no idea which one he put in. My surgical file was not in with my post-op file yesterday, so I will have to wait to find out next thursday.

That is all from this end. Thank you to all the ladies on this site for all of your stories and advice. You have been so helpful and wonderful.

Truly,
Shelly

I love the quote and oh so true!!!! I ditto that advice. No need to suffer needlessly, that's for sure!

I'm sure you're anxious to find out exactly what you have. My ps told dh after the surgery but I didn't get my implant cards or specific information until a visit a week later.

Take good care of yourself and happy healing!!!

OMG same here! It's so annoying bc I have great blood pressure but my nerves/excitement when it comes to BA's are ridiculous!

Congrats to you!!!!

Make sure your PS also gives you information on the warranty plan that comes with the implants!! It's well worth it for like $100.

Congratulations on the success of your BA. I know that you are feeling OK, but be sure to take it easy and get your rest so you don't overdo it.

Also thanks for the advice about making sure to have the pain meds on hand for after the surgery. That will be at the top of the to do list for the Big Day!!!

Congrats !!

Hope you continue on a great path to recovery. Also thanks for the medication advice, I'm the type of person that hates taking pain meds but I really think I'm going to do it after my BA.
