I can't believe it's over already! I got up this morning around 5:45, showered with antibacterial soap, no makeup/deodorant, etc. Then my mom drove me to the PS's at around 6:30. We were stuck in horrible traffic (Chicago has 2 seasons; winter and construction!) But luckily we made it there 5 minutes early somehow, at 7:40. I was his first surgery of the day. I signed an anesthesia consent form and then the nurse called me back. She was super nice. She asked if I was nervous and I said yes and she said that's normal, and don't worry because they're not nervous! We made small talk for awhile, I told her how my mom is an ER nurse so she would take really good care of me post-op. I then changed into a gown, robe, booties for my feet, and a really attractive hair cap - got to wear my own underwear. I had to pee in a cup, I'm guessing it was a pregnancy test -- they didn't say, and they also didn't tell me the results, which I am assuming means it was negative. I then went back in the room and she started my IV, she put on a relaxing CD while I was sitting in a very comfy reclining chair. I felt like I was in a spa! Then my mom came back in. The anesthesiologist came in next, introduced himself... pushed something in my IV to dry out my mouth. Then my PS came in... he seemed very excited! He drew on me with colorful sharpies and said I'd be walking into the OR soon. I said goodbye to my mom and the nurse led me in the room. They made me comfy on the table and put a sedative in my IV. The nurse was asking me questions about what I majored in and what college I went to. The anesthesiologist put a tube in my mouth and told me to take deep breaths and that's the last I remember. Next, I woke up in the recovery room. It was a really great experience, I woke up knowing exactly where I was, I wasn't nauseous and I just felt some slight pressure. The thing that was really bothering me was that I was trying to see and it felt like I was cross-eyed or something. I looked at the clock and it was 9:30. My mom said they finished around 9:20. It took less than an hour! The nurse kept asking if I was OK. Later, my mom told me that the nurse told her when I first got there my pulse was wayyy high, 140 (nervous about surgery + anxiety about traffic was to blame im sure) but the second I was put under it was normal and the afterward it was fine too. She helped me up once I stopped seeing double and put me in a wheel chair and wheeled me out to the car. I wasn't confused or anything and I actually had to help my mom figure out how to get back on the highway! The car ride hurt a little as the local anesthetic wore off and the road seemed extremely bumpy. I got home and made myself as comfortable as possible in my bed. I talked to a couple friends online and they were surprised I was up and able to type. Well, I am in my bed with my lap top haha. But I've just been watching TV, movies, and reading magazines all afternoon. I can't seem to get comfy enough to fall asleep completely yet. My chest is really tight (I got unders) and it hurts to take deep breaths. But it seems to be getting a little better as the day goes on and as I keep up with my pain meds. I can't wait til it starts feeling better! I've peeked a little (I only have to wear a sports bra) and they look really good! I'm so excited!!! I feel very lucky that all has gone well so far. More to come later, I'm sure!
ALSO: Thanks to everyone on this site!!! You made it so much easier to know what to expect!!! It's nice to know there's such a great support network!!

Yeah! I'm so excited for you. Glad you had a good experience. That is the scariest thing just not knowing how i'm gonna react to the anesthesia (sp?). when I had my tubes tied I woke up crying and when I had my wisdom teeth out, I woke up crying..so I bet I wake up crying. LOL Not for long when I see those big boobies!!! Congrats and enjoy.

Your experience sounds like the "ideal" one!
A story to aspire to and fingers crossed mine will be like that. Did you get intravenous sedation (twilight)? Hope you're feeling just as good today! Congratulations on your new twins hun.

You did it! I'm so happy for you--you give me courage and settle my nerves about mine coming up in less than 2 weeks!
It sounds like you've got the ideal situation now, a mom that is a nurse to help you and boobs you love! My heartiest congratulations--keep us posted on your progress! J |

AAAWWW! I'm so happy for you! You've helped to calm my nerves a bit for my upcoming ba. Don't forget to take it easy, though. I know you feel great, but make sure that you stay on top of your pain meds, and that you don't get too crazy! lol
I'm so jealous! Good job, sweetie! |
