Better late then never :)
I had my BA May 14 and just now getting around to sharing my story..just been so busy!
![]() My BA was scheduled second the morning of and I was excited that I didn't have to wait around all day with no food/water. So I was happy about that. Get a phone call the night before and they tell me to arrive at 1:30pm!! Crap, they moved me up. So I started worrying about the thirst/hunger and getting anxious just waiting around. I was hoping to just wake up early, get there and be done with it and not have to sit around and be nervous. Didn't work out that way. So the day finally came and I decided to just get things done that I need to get done before the time came to leave. I get a call around 10am from the surgery center and NOW they want me to come in at 2pm because they are running behind. OH MAN. Ok, I will deal. I was worried about getting anxious waiting and getting so nervous that I start to feel sick, you know the nervous poops/butterflies..hate that and I ALWAYS get them. But my doc prescribed me the patch that goes behind your ear. I was suppose to put it on about 4 hours before surgery. So I put it on around 10am and I couldn't believe how much better it made me feel. The butterflies went away and my stomach felt so calm. I sat outside in the nice weather for a bit to calm myself down and not think about the impending surgery. That helped a great deal. I found the more work I did, the more I thought about the surgery. So around Noon my DH and I left..I made sure I brought my pillow, pills and the dreaded puke bucket!! Just in case. But I was feeling good with that patch..it almost made me feel giddy, weird. We got there around 1:15pm and the sign in nurse told me that she probably wouldn't get me in for awhile. Turns out my Doc was sick the Friday before and he was making up surgeries he cancelled on my day. Great..so I figured I'd be there for while..But the patch was helping me!! (highly recommend it) Surprisingly I was called back much quicker then expected. They gave me the pee test and guess what, I am not pregnant! Then they gave me the gown, cap and some soft socks. The nurse started my IV, which didn't hurt. I was so nervous that I was quiet and didn't talk much. I do that when I get nervous. My nurse was probably thinking I was kinda boring! My heart felt like it was beating outta my chest. They hooked up the heart monitor to me and noticed my heart racing. The nurse must of mentioned it to my doc because she came back with a needle and was starting to inject it. I asked what it was and she said that the doc wanted me to relax a bit before surgery. Oh, whatever it was was just great. I felt so carefree and my heart stopped racing. So the aneth. guy came in and he was quick and short with me. I guess he was busy. I asked if he would give me the good stuff and he said yes. I think I was most nervous about the anest. and how it would make me feel. I was dreading that. The happy stuff the nurse gave me started to wear off just laying there waiting so my heart starting pounding again. And my face felt like it was on fire!! I saw everyone else getting wheeled in to their surgeries but I just layed there. FINALLY the anest. guy came in and was like "I'm giving you some medicine to make you sleepy" and I saw it go in and I was out!! I remember hearing my DH say bye and give me a kiss. I also slightly remember seeing the ceiling move as if I was getting wheeled in and I was laying flat down looking up to the ceiling. But it was foggy and didn't seem like a real memory..does that sound weird? I also remember being wheeled into a room with all these people doing things in. There was a large wall with bookcases and a lady was there taking stuff off the shelves..they looked like books? I guess she needed to learn something? Then I remember seeing the big lights being pulled over me and someone putting one of those sanitary covers over it...but it all seemed so strange like I was dreaming. Then I kinda remember someone talking to me and a mask put over my face. I heard him say "breathe deeply" and the air was so cold and smelled funny. The memories were strange because they sure sound like memories from a surgery but at the time i was experiencing it I didn't realize I was in my own surgery. It felt more like a dream that I was either dreaming or remembering a tv show about a surgery. Then, about hours later, it felt like hours and hours like a good nights sleep..I was waking up in recovery. I heard my DH talking and a nurse coming over to me and writing in a clipboard. I felt so great like I had the best sleep ever. No pain, heaviness or anything. My stomach felt great and the nurse gave me some ginger ale. That tasted oh so good. I remember taking the sheet down and checking to see if I had boobs because it all happened so quickly that I didn't believe I was done! Plus I felt so good I just didn't believe it was done. I remember I kept asking my DH if it was over. There was one other guy there in the bed ahead of me and boy was he sick. He threw up all over himself..poor guy. Normally seeing that would of freaked me out but I was in my own little world and feeling great. It was now around 6pm so the nurses wanted me outta there so they could go home. I was starting to wake up so I was told to get dressed which they helped me ( I think I flashed the guy in front of me..heck..I didn't care!) MY DH said COVER UP! lol I got home and went right to bed. I slept for like three days! I was never in really any pain. I was able to just take my muscle relaxers and tylenol at night. It was really a good recovery. I hope many girls have as much fun as I did. I was always scared to get my boobs because of surgery and the pain but I am so glad I did it because it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected! I am soo happy I did it!! (I didn't need my puke bucket or my pain meds!!) |

Sounds great
Sounds like you had a smooth experience. I got nervous reading yours, esp about knowing all that was going on...I awoke once from wisdom teeth being pulled--came to from the twilight sleep and immediately was put back under--so discussion of being aware really freaks me out. But it sounds like you really had a fine time of it. I hope the rest of your experience and recovery is just swell. Mine is Monday, so reading this helps...
thanks! |

I loved reading your story.....
Thanks so much for writing about your memories in such detail. I know a lot of people will find it helpful. It's such an experience, isn't it?? Your before/after pictures look fabulous--so worth it! It sounds like you were in the hands of some real professionals, who did wonderful work and everything went smoothly once you got started.
