Breast implants and breast feeding

Hi! I have under the muscle saline breast implants. I'm trying to have a baby presently and also thinking of breast feeding. Can anyone give me any stories about this good or bad. Also, could using the pump pop my implants?

The only thing I can offer regarding breastfeeding came from my PS. He said that having a BA usually does not affect your ability to breastfeed or not. He said it tends to be that if you can't breastfeed after a BA, you wouldn't have been able to before either. I'm sure something COULD happen that affects your ability, but my PS says that's usually not the case. Did your PS mention anything about breastfeeding? I haven't had children, but for other reasons, I know it is unlikely that I will be able to breastfeed, and since he said it shouldn't change my ability to do so, I didn't ask my PS anymore questions about it. I don't think using a breast pump should be a problem with implants because they are supposed to be extremely durable. Hopefully others will be able to offer more personal experience.

hi there!
i have not gotten my BA yet.... BUT.. i did just stop breast feeding.. and my main source was pumping.. i will tell you that the pump has MAJOR suction... much more than the infant... when i would pump, i could feel my WHOLE boob contracting... you can even see it... so that could be a possibility that it could have an impact on your implants... but, because it is under the muscle, maybe it will be more 'protected'? good luck!

I don't have a BA but I did breastfed my boys. A major resource I used was La Leche League. You should look on their website http://www.llli.org/nb.html and see if it gives you any answers. Perhaps a LLL leader could personally answer your questions requarding BA and nursing. Also, I would ask your OBGYN his or her thoughts. GL

I nursed for 5 years with implants and had no problems whatsoever.

My implants are ruptured but I think this has to do with their age (25 years) and brand (2nd generation Dow Corning) rather than nursing or pumping.

In fact, I believe that nursing is very beneficial for the breast with or without implants.

Finally I see somebody who did have children after BA and even nursed! Sorry if I sound too excited...the thing is that I share Beenzy's concern...I was always curious to know if it is true what PS usually say about breastfeeding with implants....so from your experience it was perfectly fine, right? Did you experience any pain or change in the breast during and after the pregnancy? Did change in shape or size? Anything you can share will be greatly appreciated!! Thank you, girl!
