Smile The chance of a lifetime...

All of my life I have been very self concious of how uneven my breasts were. Normally most women have one larger than the other, but mine was significant - a small "B" cup on the left and a large "C" cup on the right/droopy. I never wanted to be seen in a sexy top or a swim suit. I have always dreamed of feeling sexier and even better "normal". I have researched BA for quite sometime, but it never seemed within my reach to actually move foward with the procedure. I also am a christian and struggled with "is this christian like" - spoke with my pastor about the elective procedure and was reassured that as long as I am enhancing God's work not destroying it - we are given tools on this earth, why not use them. I also have dental braces - so that was similar in my mind. I prayed about this procedure from the time I booked my surgery - and still continue to pray every day!!!!

I was married a little more than a year ago to a great man...who has helped me through this journey tremendously. He assured me that he would not love me any more or less and this was my decision to make, but that he's support me regardless and we'd find a way to make it happen financially. We started to research it seriously in June 2008. I found two board certified plastic surgeons in our area and scheduled two consults right away. The decision between the doctors was easy for me - since both doctors were well trained, educated, experienced...it was about who made me feel most comfortable. I am very happy with the doctor I chose.

At my pre-op appointment I was very nervous but very excited at the same time. He relieved most of my fears...actually my biggest fear was anesethsia - having never had an operation that seemed like a rational fear. I didn't let my fear stop me. I didn't want to look back at my life and think "what if". At the pre-op we discussed risks, complications, sizes, style - all things we had briefly talked about at the consult.

My surgery was scheduled for July 25, 2008. I took the day off before surgery to spend the day wth my husband doing fun things to keep my mind off of what was to come. Even though it's what I have been waiting for, I was still very fearful that something could/would go wrong. We woke up surgery day at 5am, I showered and treated it like any other day. We waited for the doc to arrive - the surgical staff all introduced themselves to me - they were all great. The anesethsiologist calmed my fears, and this point there was no turning back anyway! I changed into my gowned and got all ready for surgery and went back to sit with my husband for a little bit until the doc came. I kissed my hubby "goodbye" and went to the surgical room. The second I laid down the table all the staff started to do their "duties" - my IV was inserted right away and I started to feel tingly...they asked me about my job...I told them a little of what I do...there was a song on the radio "I kissed a girl" - which was catchy and fun...they turned it off and I asked them to turn it back on...so they did...then we joked for a minute...the next thing i know I am waking up in a darker room with the nurse by my side....I was groaning and thrashing around all confused. She asked me what my pain level was and I said "7" so she gave me some morphine...then I said "5", "2" ....I'm good. Literally I was good to go home about 45 min after surgery which shocked me.

I had textured silicone implants and a right side benelli lift (354cc - left; 253cc - right). The next couple of days were pretty uncomfortable - but the Percocet helped - eventually it made me so sick to my stomach I had to stop taking it and try to brave the pain with Tylenol....I never realized how much you use your pec muscles - sitting up and moving around on the couch was so difficult. Never have a craved a normal shower in so long! We managed to do sponge baths and my husband washed and brushed my hair (which he said was a first for him) - he attempted a pony tail for me - that looked as if a child did it - but sweet nonetheless.

I am currently 7 days post op - my next apt is 08/04/08 - they will be removing the stiches - I hope they get me out of this extremely uncomfortable sports bra. I am moving around much easier now - still haven't slept on my side yet - can't wait to do that!

I am so proud of myself that I did it, and will be even happier/confident when the pain is gone and no complications have happend. Anyone thinking of doing this - remember ask yourself 'why you want it done', ' are your goals realistic', 'do you have the proper time to recover b/c you need that', ' do your research' - good luck to any woman who reads this and finds comfort knowing it can happen, and it does work out well for most people!!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your BA testimony.

I am also a Christian, and even though I have not sat down and talked with my Pastor, I know just as long as I am not hurting my body in any way, God is okay with that.

I am so glad you all enjoyed reading my story - if ever I can give someone help through an experience, I find that very satisfying! Since you all have wanted to know updates - I am doing very well - I will be four weeks post op this Friday! I still get some odd sensations from time to time, all my scabs are off, I had a little seeping from that - not a big deal, I tried to sleep bra-less last night - not smart...so I'll keep wearing a sports bra to bed - sleep better that way! My husband took me to victoria secret and we bought two new biolift/fit bras - 36D!!!!! WOOHOO! I am so happy that I did this, and proud of myself for not backing out! The entire process wasn't that bad, just the first couple of days, but that was mostly b/c my body doesn't like the drugs, even though I did! I hope you all have similar relatively easy journeys and find comfort knowing that changing your body for you, is totally okay!!!!!! Thanks for all your support and kind words!
