So about 5 1/2 hours ago, I finally had my breast augmentation. We arrived at the hospital (about an hour's drive, but the GPS took us on a crazy route and got us lost so it took a little longer: GRRR!) an hour before it was scheduled and I had my pregnancy test, changed into my gown and hospital socks, took out my earrings and belly button ring, and took off my glasses and put them all in the cute little duffel bag they gave me to take home. I wasn't even all that nervous, which was a little shocking to me!
I got to the pre-op room where they sat me down and while I answered the questions the nurse and anesthesiologist were asking, another nurse proceeded to stick in the IV. Wow--I think that was actually the most painful part of the whole day (well, so far)! She told me I had wiggly little veins--she tried and tried to put the catheter part in my left hand and it just wasn't happening. The stinging and burning hurt so bad, I was so happy when she took it out! But it went in just fine on the other hand, and they started pumping in the antibiotic and I was good to go... After saying bye to my boyfriend, we walked down the hall a little ways to the operating room, where I stepped up on to the step-stool and while they untied the back of my hospital gown, laid down on the table. They immediately covered me with a few warm blankets and got me situated how they wanted me, slipped the gown down and put the compression leggings on my calves. The anesthesiologists explained what they were doing every step of the way, what medication they would be pumping in to the IV, and held the oxygen mask over my face. They kept asking me if I was comfortable, if I felt okay, etc. Seems like 2 seconds later I was out! When I woke up, I looked around the recovery area to see the nurse standing at the bedside. Everything was fuzzy, of course, because I didn't have my glasses/contacts in, but could still make out enough to see what was going on. I laid there for about 10 minutes or so, answering the nurse's questions about my pain level (which was only about a 1 out of 10...Yay!), whether or not I felt nauseated, etc. Then my doctor came by and informed me that instead of the 400cc implants we had originally agreed upon, he ended up going with 350cc implants, because one, he could hardly fit them in the pocket in the first place, and two, he felt like 400cc was just way too big in proportion to my hips, frame, weight, etc. I was so happy and reassured by this, because I was afraid of going too big. I wanted to look as natural as possible, and I definitely feel like we've acheived that! So in the end, I received 350cc silicone, smooth, round, high profile, Mentor implants, placed under the muscle. I love them already! So after about 15 minutes since waking up, the nurse helped me in to the chair beside the bed and wheeled me back to the pre-op room I was in before. She gave me some pain medication and water to take, while asking me again about any nausea and pain level. Again, no nausea, and pain was only about a 1 out of 10, which totally surprised me. She went out to the waiting room to get my boyfriend so he could hear the postoperative instructions and sign the sheet, just to make sure at least one of us understood them! I finally got my IV pulled out of my hand, which was such a relief, and while my boyfriend went out to pull our vehicle around to the front doors, the nurse helped me get dressed. She went out to get a wheelchair and walked me out to my boyfriend, wished me luck, and we were out of there! Now, being almost 6 hours later, I hardly feel any pain at all. I've taken some more Arnica Montana and Bromelain per the instructions on the bottle, plus my antibiotic and one Vicodin tablet as prescribed by my doctor. I feel so much better than I thought I would! I've just been relaxing since we got home, but still walking around a bit. I'd rather stay active as long as I feel up to it. Still no nausea, just a little groggy from the pain medication. I really can't complain at all. I'm just so ecstatic about my whole experience! It's funny right now because my breasts feel hard and are so high, of course, so I'm very excited about what they'll look like once they drop into place in the pocket and soften up. I'll call my doctor's office tomorrow to make my postoperative visit for 1 week out from surgery, per his specific instructions. My entire experience was just plain awesome: I feel so comfortable with my doctor and have the utmost confidence in him, the entire staff that I came in contact with, both at my doctor's office and the surgery center, were just as nice as they could be and put me at ease, and I feel so much better about myself already. One of the best days of my 22 years, that's for sure! |

Thanks to everyone who's replied to this already...It's very encouraging to hear all these positive comments! I'm at day #2 and aside from a little soreness and tightness, I can't complain! Seems like being up and moving around (in moderation, of course) helps me out a lot with that. I'm ecstatic! Can't wait til I'm fully healed and see the final result, that's for sure!

I guess I should update a little bit...Today was pretty horrible! I woke up feeling totally nauseated, so I laid back down and slept as long as I could. But when I was up and moving around for maybe 5 minutes, I ended up getting sick then, and then later on in the afternoon. Hurt so bad! So I just took it pretty easy the rest of the day, took a little nap. But it's unreal how much more sore I have been over the last day, as opposed to my first couple days which were great pain-wise!
Wouldn't say I have the "postop blues" by any means...I know that the fact that my boobs don't look right yet is completely normal. But with the soreness, tightness, swelling, and bruising I'm experiencing, it definitely doesn't help to look in the mirror and they don't look the way I want them to yet! HAHA. But I'm naturally an impatient person, so I don't know... I've heard from so many of you that it takes about a week before they'll start changing a little, from going down in swelling to bruising disappearing, starting to soften, etc. I CAN'T WAIT! Just trying to stay on top of my pain meds so I'm not constantly having to "catch up" with the pain...Not a good idea. It'll be postop Day 4 today, so we'll see if maybe things will get a little better today (but I doubt it)! I know there's a lot of you who have had your surgeries very recently, like me. How are you guys doing? Experiencing anything like what I am? How do yours look? Is your pain and soreness continuing to get worse? Just curious. |
