Smile My BA Story

Hi Everyone!
I'm happy to report that I'm in day 3 post op BA and feeling great! Here is my story:

Day of Surgery:
Hardly slept a wink all night. My surgery was scheduled for 8am on Monday morning but i was dreadfully nervous about sleeping in. We live an hour away from my PS, so I finally got up at 4:30am to take my shower and wash myself with my anti-bacterial soap. I got myself all ready and then woke up my husband. We left our home at around 5:30am for our 1 hour car ride.

Good thing we left early, we hit a bit of traffic and arrived at the PS Centre at 7:00am. As soon as we got there, a nurse greeted us and explained that I would have to change into a sexy shirt, hat and slippers. She took my blood pressure and listened to my heart. She said 'Wow, your blood pressure and heart beat are low, most are up b/c of nervousness'. To be honest, I wasn't nervous at all, just excited to finally have this day!

The doctor soon came in afterwards, marked up on my boobs and said, 'See you in 10min'. I said my goodbye to my hubby and walked into the OR. I laid down on the OR table and the nurse put a nice heated blanket on me. Before I knew it, they were putting the IV in my arm and said, 'ok Renee, we are now giving you your drugs'. That is all I remember from that point.

I woke up in recovery with a nurse by my side. She asked how I felt. I felt okay, just a little groggy, felt like I woke up from a long long sleep. I took a peek at my new boobs and the first thing that came into my mind was breast feeding. I told the nurse, I feel like there is a screaming baby around the corner waiting to latch to my breast, ha ha. It felt a lot like engorgement. The nurse then gave me more drugs and then called my hubby to pick me up.

Walking to the car was fine but I needed help from my husband. I couldn't open up the car door and had to get help getting out of the car. It felt like I couldn't use any muscle in my chest. The bumps on the way home, hurt a little bit but other than that, it was an okay drive home. I was so hungry and asked my husband to stop and get me a milk shake from McDonald's. I had been on a strict diet for the last 6 weeks, so this was quite a treat for me.

I spent the remainder of the day in bed. I have two boys ages 3 and 7, so my mother in law came over for the night to help me out with them. I was really grateful to have her as I was really tired. It had been challenging to make them understand that they cannot jump on me or that I cannot pick up my 3 year old.

Later on that night, I woke up and felt great. We all got in the truck, got an ice cream and then went to the park. Now that i look back, i think the pain meds were really helping me and probably should have stayed home. We were out about 1.5hrs and then I starting feeling the pain again, so i asked to get home as soon as we could. After I got home, I went back to bed.

On Tuesday, I woke swollen and sore. I also felt incredibly itchy from head to toe. I also started getting a rash from both armpit areas. I got my husband to get some benadryl for me which seemed to help. I spent the majority of the day in bed, sleeping and using ice packs on my new boobies. By 4pm that day, I took myself off of the Dilaudin as I felt it was causing this major itchiness.

Now today is Wedneday, I have removed my bandages, taken a shower and feel generally okay. My chest feels really tight but i'm really pleased with the results (although they look a little smaller than I antcipated). I ended up getting 400cc, under the muscle, mentor moderal plus profiles. My PS has said that i should wear a sportsbra but with my stitches i'm not feeling comfortable. I'm going braless for the day and will try the sportsbra tomorrow.

As for how my boobs look now, after reading everyone's questions and stories, I know it will take time for these puppies to drop and they will eventually look better over the weeks to come. The only thing i'm concerned about is that I still have the red patches in both my arm pits. They are kinda burning so i'm keeping an eye on them as I'm not sure what it is exactly....perhaps drainage? Anyone know?

WEll I suppose i should go get some rest now. I wanted to share my story with everyone because I know that I really enjoyed everyone's stories and it helped me know what the expect for this BA.
Very best,
Renee

Congrats on your new additions! What a great story. It sounds like things went pretty perfectly, aside from the itchiness! I can't believe you were out and about the same day!

Congratulations!! Thanks for sharing your story Hope your healing proccess continues to go well. I had a burning/itching sensation on my crease area where I had my incisions for at least 2 months. Did you have your incision through your arm pits? That may definitely be why they are burning, and most likely is a normal effect.
