now that i am 9 days post-op...sorry it is so long, but i am so happy with my doctor and my experience that i couldn't stop...

...All my life I was small…perky, but small…and it never bothered me. I was very athletic played lots of sports and so they fit easily into my active lifestyle. And later, though marriage and children my boobs had served me well. They performed admirably in producing enough to nurse my 2 girls and for that I felt there was no reason for complaint. During my nursing days I grew to a full c/small d, but that was all business so they never struck me as anything more than the milk factories that they were. Just call me dairy queen! Granted once that time was over my boobs proceeded to deflate to nothing more than nipples and skin. Ahhhh, but I was proud…I had sustained life times 2, and besides that I was in the throws of motherhood….diapers, no sleep, barney, no sleep, laundry, work, no sleep…you get the idea. Boobs were nothing but an after thought.

Fast forward 10 or so years…2 girls are now 11 and soon to be 14. While I loved all that was and is involved with raising our daughters I have also been able to reclaim some of my past life. Exercise and fitness came back…being fit and 40+ was great…I pursued something that I have always wanted to do…motorcycle riding and have since become a total track day junkie, but that is another story. As my fitness returned via running, cycling and weightlifting I was so happy with my body in it’s older form with the exception of my chest. It was just one thing that no matter how much I worked out would not improve. The gears began churning…I broached the subject with my husband and while he was reticent at first he opened up when he realized I was serious this time. What a great guy…he said that he wanted me to be happy and that was all I needed as far as a go ahead. so off I went…where else but to the computer and entrenched myself in research…I made local appointments, but they were weeks off…so I researched some more…and waited…and became even further committed.

My time was spent looking at before and after pics via google searches. All things boobs became my focus…saline, silicone, profiles, placement, incisions, dropping and fluffing. It was a whole new world and I was learning a whole new lingo. What fun? And then I discovered this site, and wham….information galore. that was when dr englers name came up. I got lots of doctors names with great reputations and I checked out their websites. Fellow forumites said find pictures off boobs that you like. every time i referenced back to any pictures that i liked they were the ones from dr engler’s site. Those would be my examples I thought. my local consults finally came up, and while the doctors all were great no one really grabbed me. at the same time, i ended up getting a job to coach the local high school girls lacrosse team. that threw a major monkey wrench into my plans. what would have meant a long winter to get my ba done was now condensed into a couple months as i need to particiapate in a january clinic for the team. Panic set in…how was I going to do this? It surprised me how conflicted I was…coaching lacrosse was an opportunity that I had been waiting for, but man was I surprised at how disappointed I felt about possibly not getting the BA done. Pressing on was all I could think about…my commitment to go foward rather than wait a year or so grew even stronger.

finally one day i decided to take the trip into the city to see some doctors if getting some appointments would be possible. why if i loved dr engler's pics so much wouldn't i go see him? Guess, in my mind i figured it would be weeks, maybe even months to see a big time ny doctor, but i called anyway. Just wishful thinking I guess. Low and behold I could get appointments in manhattan within the week, and most offices expressed that they could work with me on my surgery date. What? How could this be? My hopes went up again. So in to New York City I went. Thankfully bus service from the east end of long island to manhattan is readily available and very easy. When I walked into Dr Engler’s office I was greeted by Jessie and was immediately at ease with her calm demaenor…filled out a few papers then sat to read a book. Surely I would be in for a wait. Not a chance…I went right into the exam room…didn’t wait but a minute and dr engler came right in in his surgical scrubs and we started talking. I just felt and knew that he got me from the beginning. He was so easy to talk to. We talked for 15 minutes before he even examined me. I loved all his suggestions.

After discussing it with my husband, I called the next day telling Jessie I wanted to go with Dr. Engler and we made a second appointmnet. dr engler even called me back directly later on. When we met he was just amazing and I told him about my timing dilemma. he said, “we’ll find a way.” While a December date would probably be ok for me I think he sensed that I really wanted as much recovery time as possible so he gave me his cell phone and said he would let me know over the weekend what he could do. We talked some more about size and I told him I trusted his judgement and wanted to let him decide what was best for me and my lifestyle. I was done researching…I found my surgeon and was too tired to think about any more, but he wouldn’t let me off the hook so easy. I got a homework assignment! Ha haaa, go home try bras on that I liked with different sizers made from rice or water…that was when I discovered using cornmeal (another story). Too my surprise I liked the bigger sizes on my homework sheet. So glad he made me work for it a little bit!

I think it was a Friday when dr engler called me and asked, “if he could re-work his schedule for Tuesday would I be ok with that?” Oh my god, just say jump and I would be there. I could not believe it was him calling me working on the scheduling. We stayed in touch all weekend, he told me to hang tight, he would get it sorted out. Amazing! Not only was he and his office working double time for me, he was the one calling me and reassuring me! ultimately he was able to work it out for Thursday. That gave me more time to get blood work done, an ekg and a pregnancy test right, make a hotel reservation for Wednesday night in the city. before I knew it we were all systems go.

The day of the sugery went equally as smooth. My appointment was going to be around 11, but they said to call at 9 to let them know I was ready. Jessie called me back around 11 and said come on up. We were only a few blocks away…here we go! The pre-op was great, dr engler met my husband and marked me up, we met the anesthesiologist and then in I went! The anesthesiologist told me to think of a nice place and I was out. I only remember bits and pieces of leaving. Dr engler had warned my husband that I would be asking the same questions over and over again, which I guess I did the whole drive home. My husband had some good laughs at my expense. It was also quite comical (I hear) when I tried repeatedly to suck on a lollipop that they gave me for my dry mouth!

Well with 9 days and my first post op appointment behind me and I am beside myself thinking that it is all over. I went through highs and lows, before meeting dr engler. Never in my life did I think a doctor would be so hands on…he was the one who quoted me the price on my first visit, he contacted me about all my scheduling….not to say that the gals in the office were any slouches…they were all so helpful every time I called. Dr engler called me every day up until my post-op apppointment including the weekend to see how I was after the surgery. In all my appointments he spent so much time with me…the appointments ended when I was done with my questions, not when he got all the information he needed. Also I never sat and waited to meet him and the appointment management was amazing and I know he is busy (most appointments are 2 months out), but I can‘t say how much I appreciate how he bent over backwards to accommodate me. I sound like an advertisement, but I just can’t say enough about how amazing he made me feel…and that was before he gave me these amazing ta-tas!

Enjoyed reading your story very much. I could so relate to the part about getting your body back after kids, and realizing that NO amount of working out was going to fix the boobs.....

THANKS ALL for the kind words...i have to say he really did make this experience so great and i am fully enjoying, though still really just recovering, my new boobies! even though i am not quite ready for a real bra i did have some fun trying on clothes this weekend. it was so great trying on tops i never would have before!
