The day finally comes 26 Jan, I am nervous outta my mind! My show time is 6:15am for 7:30 appt. I get checked in with the front desk and wait for them to take me on back. I go back to get my vitals taken and let me tell you something, my leg was moving a mile a minute. When I'm nervous I shake my legs (imagine you're in a sitting position and the entire leg boucing). So the ladies are like oh no honey, what's all the shaking for, you want this. I smile and say yeah, but it doesn't stop the nerves. They take me back to where all the other pre op patients are and put me in a small space, can't say room b/c it's literally a space with a curtain and I change into the fashionable hospital Gucci the paper kind, well not paper, but I don't know what that material is, I know it's not cotton (gown, robe, some knee hi tights with no bottom, and footies to cover the no bottom and hair bonnet). I meet the PS nurse first and she see my legs going and gets a kick out of it. Now, I don't know about anyone else, but I had to go in au natural so I was sweating like a hoe in church and was thinking, please don't let me stink. The anesthesia nurse stopped in to introduce herself, saw the leg and said I made her think I didn't want to get this done, I told her no it was just the nerves, but she got a kick outta it too. I'm like I'm glad I can get everyone going at my expense. She attempts to get my IV started (I HATE NEEDLES) so my head it turned and my leg has slowed but not once stopped, she kinda made me, she did have a needle ya know. First vein no luck (always my case), so as she is doing this my DH is watching, when she missed the first vein she said well I got it and he said yeah and it had some return (some medical terminology). So she said okay, you said some terminology that means something what do you do, so these two get into a convo about IV techniques and his job, I'm sitting there like what the hamsandwich is going on, can you please just hurry up and stick me and get this over with. Well I guess she wanted to see if I was one of those that say they feel when they really don't feel, so she asked how I was doing as my head was still turned and I said okay, she said ok, just checking to see if you were pulling my leg. Oh, I got a shot to numb the location before I got the IV, so that was a good and bad thing I guess. Good I couldn't feel the IV go in as it normally does, but bad b/c that was FOUR shots. After she leaves my DH tells me I need to calm down, with me being so nervous my BP would be high, heart rate going and may mess with the meds and all this other stuff, so instead of shaking I swing them...LOL So they get me started on the antibiotics while I'm waiting for the PS and the anesthesiologist (sp). With the anesthesia nurse you gotta sign some papers, the PS comes in does his markings explains what he'll do and then sign his papers. The moment of no return and new territory!! I kiss my DH and walk to the OR. Baby let me tell you something, that room was cold as ish, to be exact it was about 60 something degrees, not too much warmer than outside, BUT once they got me positioned on the table I got some blankets. They strapped both arms down and stretched out, put a strap over my waist and put some shoe things on my feet that would feel as if I was walking. They told me they were putting something in my IV that was going to make me warm and then I had to breathe into the oxygen mask wth deep breaths. That was one helluva nap! My first words were Thank you Jesus and did you call my husband. He left, we only live 10 minutes aways and he had to put my lil girl on the bus. I had the shakes AND pain, so they gave me something for the shakes and some demerol, I went down for a lil bit again, but I was determined to get up so I could go home and take something, b/c the demerol took the edge off, but baby, it hurt. I (well they helped me) got dressed in my stylish PJs, I made sure my return home was going to be simple, before leaving I had to make a potty break, actually while I was waking up I had to go, but she said my options were a bed pan or wait 10-15 min, I don't know how to use a bed pan so I waited. They rolled me out and I was on my way home. Those oh so simple 10 min to get there weren't so simple when I was returning home. Now listen ladies, I AM A PUNK, WUSS, ok you get the pic, me and pain don't really get along too well, so our combination together wasn't a pleasant one...LOL I got home and tried to eat some crackers and soup so I could take my meds (they wouldn't give me anything at the hospital b/c they didn't want me getting sick in the car) but I couldn't swallow a thing. My mouth was cotton ball dry, ALL my saliva was gone, the soup didn't even make my mouth wet and soup is wet...LOL I finally said screw it, drank some water took the meds and went straight to bed. I stayed there ALL day and night. I got up to go to the restroom which was all the dang time it seemed like (for me it was a task), and my hubby was like you shouldn't be getting up this much, but I was like I can't control my bladder, so he was on bathroom and med duty. Oh, my two cents of advice, if you can feel anything, you need to take something!!! LOL Now I think I was not the norm, I looked down, but I didn't take one peak at those jokers, I was too dang scared, don't ask me why, I thought if I unhook, or unzip something is coming out that's not suppose to, so I didn't get my big reveal until 3 days later. Now my sis, she was touching and rubbing the top portion from the surgical bra, she thought they were HUGE...LOL she was like can you feel that and I said no, that's the only reason you are allowed to touch me now. But, for the majority of the day I was in and out of sleep, and A&E was my friend, I just had to have the sound of a monotone (boring) voice. I know this is long, but if I had a story to read prior to I would've loved to see it no matter how long, I'm an avid reader anyway, so maybe that's why my story is so long, I gotta get you to feel it...LOL So that's day one, the following days were okay, but rough at the same time b/c the hospital meds were coming out so, I was feeling the boobs, my ribs, which for the life of me I couldn't figure out at that point, but now I know, you get numbing meds in the area, at least I did. So that was my BA experience, with everything even the recovery (as I am still in) I don't regret and would do again. Bit of advice, have everything within reach where you are resting, in my bed, I kept my phone, water and remote in my lap, I was propped up so it wasn't moving. In the bathroom the tissue was in easy reach. My kids and DH did a wonderful job on the times for me to take meds they were given along with the water so I didn't do anything. That's story #1 maybe I'll post the other one later, I don't want to bore you guys.

Not boring at all, I thought that was a very fun read
Pretty similar to my experience, but told in a much more entertaining manner. I know you've had a rough time of it since, how are you doing now?

Taking it a day at a time. I finally got out the house after a week and that was another thing, stepped on some ice and well you know the rest. Otherwise I think everything is going okay. I see the PS on Tues and I pray I can get the second set of stiches out, things seem fine, but I really don't know what to compare them to ya know, so I hope I get some good news on Tues. Just ready for some normal days b/c they don't exist at the moment. By the way, thanks for remembering my story, that means a lot.

Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to share your story. It REALLY helps those of us who haven't gone yet. I'm a big Wussy when it comes to pain too so I'm all about the meds. Hey, I've heard that leg shakers generally weigh less because all that moving is constantly burning calories!
