![]() | My RAPID RECOVERY experience
I woke up early at 6 AM, I had planned on sleeping in since my breast augmentation wasn’t scheduled until 11. The next 5 hours were nerve wrecking. Too much time on my hands. I got to the PS at 10:45 and the nurse talked with DH telling him all the post op care info. She took me back and asked me all the normal questions, and then got me settled into my observation room, gave me the gown, head cover, and slippers to put on. At about 11:10, the anesthesiologist came in and had me sign a couple more forms, and told me he’d see me in 2 minutes. Behind him was the PS. A quick couple of questions to make sure we were still on the same page as my consult appt, a couple of marks with his trusty blue marker, and he was off as well. Then the walk to the OR. Anesthesiologist had me lay down on the table and wiped my with this terrific numbing gel and the IV was in. They started asking me questions about my family, I think like most do just to keep your mind off what is going on. I could feel a cold sensation going up my arm and could taste the anesthesia. That is the last thing I remember until I woke up in the observation room. The nurse told me everything went well, that I should take my comedy on the road because I had everyone in stitches while going under. I am glad I don’t remember; it could be embarrassing. She told me that she had called DH to let him know I was in observation and I would be out in just a few minutes. (He was in the parking lot with our girls watching movies….Off topic, anyone with small kids who doesn’t have portable DVD players…Great investment) The bottom fell out from there for a few minutes. I couldn’t open my eyes, when I tried, I felt nauseous. They helped me raise up, again, nauseous, and the anesthesia shake sat in. Oy Vey! We kept trying at my pace, and after about 30 minutes, I was able to get my clothes on and get to the van. It was 2:15.I kept my eyes closed all the way home, 45 minutes but had to do my lovely shoulder lift exercises. Once I got home, a 5 minute shower every 15 minutes for the first 2 hours, with me laying down and sleeping through the off time. In the shower I had to do my should shrugs and let the warm water massage my new additions. I felt very heavy, and very tight, but I can’t say that I was sore. DH took the children to my parents who STILL don’t know I had a breast augmentation. He just told them I was sick and we didn’t want the girls to catch whatever it was. During that time, I just slept. When he got home, it was back to the shower for another round of 2 showers an hour. Still feeling the effects of the anesthesia. By this time it was close to 7 PM. I sent DH out for food, and once I ate, I felt much better. Continued my showers and shrugs until I went to sleep on the couch at midnight. The next morning, I felt really good. I folded laundry and put it away, and continued with my exercise program which included raising my arms over my head. Any time I was sitting, I just kept moving my arms slowly trying to loosen the muscles a bit. I took 2 naproxen daily…1 in the morning when I woke up and 1 at bed time. DH and I went out to dinner Saturday night, and did a little PJ shopping. I was in No pain, it just felt like I had a really good pec work-out. I am 4 days post op, and other than my incision site being tender and the obvious new additions, I don’t even know I had anything done. We played cards last night for about 5 hours, and I didn’t feel anything. If I ever wanted a re-do, I would definitely go back to this surgeon, or find someone else who does rapid recovery. It was truly a great experience. I have virtually no swelling, and only one small bruise at the incision of my left breast. I got measured today, and I am a 32D...I hope when they drop and fluff, they stay this way. I am so thrilled.... Mentor smooth round unders, 325cc

That sounds so amazing. I really did not have any pain but was sore under my ribs and had problems sitting up. All those showers sounds like a pain, but well worth it. Congrats!! |

Absolutely facinating!! Wonder why more PSs don't use this method? If I weren't having a tummy tuck with my breast augmentation, you can bet I'd be asking my PS about this rapid recovery! Happy healing. Sounds like you are doing GREAT! |

Thanks for sharing. I can't wait til he does mine next month. I was wondering how everything would actually go. It just sounded too good to be true. I'm glad to hear you're doing well. I meant to wish you luck and see how things went sooner, but I've been very sick. Congrats!

![]() | CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I may try a form of your rapid recovery. Do you think it's PS preference or do they do something different during surgery? Don't know ![]() How did you take so many showers!!?? I would think your skin would dry out terribly.Keep us posted on your rapid recovery! |

Also, I so got dried out in the shower. My skin itched and was tight in my chest anyway. Baby Lotion became my best friend. LOL Hope this Helps

I loved the optimistic feeling I have now! I hope it is just as good as yours was...I'm worried about sleep so I may look into the rental chair. I was thinking about getting tons of pillows...would that work? Or my butt may get numb..don't know can't wait...Friday I get my preop date!

It does have a lot to do with the way the PS performs the breast augmentation... it is a much gentler approach to prevent as much bruising as possible... I believe one of our mods on here, Barbara Ann, has a really good idea of how it is all done. I wouldn't have had my BAs any other way... the showers help with the stretching... I should really post my breast augmentation story...I am too lazy Some PSs may tell you that it is just a 'gimmick', that is their own personal opinion... it worked fabulously for me and about 6 of my friends Love him and RR!!!ANd Congrats on your fabulous new additions!!! | |
